I am impressed by your talents. It must feel good to catch a fish on a fly that you tied and on a rod that you made.

The wrapper is my brothers..the one in the pic is mine. Its about 300 bucks for that one..i do all my wrapping there, and since he has a online tackle business, i get my stuff wholesale .. Like my great vise.. he gets a new model i get the handi downs, and thats ok with me lol...
So pretty much i need, i get from him...
He doesn't teach me tho.. he sits me down and say have at it.. you learn by mistakes... so thats how i learnt.. With fly tying, in the beginning, i bought a small kit from fleet farm in wis. and started tying.. then he started and his flys were better then mine so i quite, and he took off from there.. After about 5 years away from it, i took it back up again, and i love it.. But i think it just was with so many brothers, and me being the only girl, i didn't like the fact he was better then me and enjoyed something i liked too.. Now that we all are adults we work together on alot of things..
Everyone always said... Tami you know alot of things, is there something you don't do.. Let me say having 12 brothers and me the only girl.. i did what they did.. Expect for my soap lotion and shampoo making that was all me.. Looking for something for my daughter heather that was mild on her skin from Radiation and her treatments..If it wasn't for that, i don't think i would pick up making soaps... I am a tom boy, i guess you would say..
So its all good..

Ok heres more pics

The first one, i left the first wrapping i did on there, i don't like the way it turned out... and i did a bit of wrapping up a bit farther on the rod to compare them, i think i like the second wrapping better with the silver in it..

What do you think?

the 2 nd pic of of my cork handle fly rod, i am making and heres a bit of the wrapping..

the 3rd is the eye wrapping..

will keep you posted as i move on with this

Ok heres some of the fly rod.. i haven't gave up yet on my purple, just taking a break from it..till i get the colors right for thread..

Now on this one, it is a brand name blank
a blank is what you buy when making a rod, it comes in one piece or two just like the rods you get from the store thats all they are, blanks till you add the items to it.. like eyes and so on..

Now on this one i wanted something just a bit different, so i used feather to look like a inlay.. i used a special feather in the fly tying business and that is the jungle cock..and another feather as well.. used to be rare and you couldnt own any here in the states.. But now you can buy them, for a bit of money..

The blank carries a name that is well known, and highly sout after so i wanted to accent the name on the blank..

this blank is for life, you break it , its replaced free.. but you have to rebuilt it, only the blanks are covered on this graphite rod.

i hope you like the work so far....

the 3rd pick is one first coat over the wrapping..  will keep you updated as i go along

The colour i am going with.. After i put on the colour preserve it darkens the thread a bit, and it looks really nice, here is a pic of the eye thread that isn't seal yet.
I think adding the silver works...

I like the colours they will be a bit darker and more blended once the sealer gets on..
About 10 years ago, some friends got me a bday cake.. it had turquoise and purple flowers on the top.. it looked so cool with those colours. So when i started this " girlie rod" i wanted something in those colours. And thats where those colours came from.. Turquoise and purple go really well.. I got rid of the maroon from the first pics and added the shinny metallic  silver to it...
so once i coat it i will send more pics..

Hey NG
what does it cost to make your own rod? How much time does it take?
If today was perfect. There would be no need for tomorrow.

When making a custom rod, you don't want to make it out of cheap things, if you wanted that you can get them at k mart for 20 bucks.. What i build will last a life time and pass on. I make them personal. So i can do a rod starting out around 100, on the low end, to thousands of dollars.
All depends what what you want. Some want huge brand name blankets, to reels, and it always paids to buy a great line then a 10 dollar for fly rods.. So it all depends..

I will total up my cost, when i post my pic of my rod to give you example Pegg..

Ok here it is.. Notice the colors got a bit darker with the sealer on them, it looks really nice in person... and the inlay is  the famous Jungle Cock feathers.... i think it turned out super,
what do you think?

The purple thread looks almost black in the pic, it isn't it turned a nice deep purple, and the turquoise, is a bit darker as well.... the picture doesn't show the color and detail as it is in person...I think the silver really accents it super as well..

I am so excited
