Ice conditions remain fairly stable throughout the area. With a small amount of fresh snow travel has certainly become less rough. We have started to see current areas really begin to open up. Travel by truck on the ice road is still safe at this time but because we are beginning our thaw it is always good to check with a local source before venturing out. Sled and fourwheeler travel is still a safe way to travel to your favorite fishing hole.
Crappies are still biting but the bite has become alot more sporadic. We are still finding them in the deep holes but are also having success locating them in some of there shallower water haunts. Deep being up to forty feet and shallow at twenty feet. The trick still is to drill quite a few holes and really work an area well. Glow pink and glow blue jigs have been good tipped with a very small minnow. The size has been a mixed bag of small, medium, and large slabs.
Great news is the walleye bite has become very consistent and ourselves and others are starting to see some good evening action. The last two hours of the evening have been anglers best bet. Small jigging spoons like the do all jigger and the buck shot rattle jig have been consistent producers when tipped with a minnow. The falls in town is starting to see some good fish move in. Any current area right now seems to be attracting some good fish. Remember these areas should be monitored as the ice conditions can rapidly change. Also please release the big fish. These are females and are carrying the eggs for future stock. We really see no reason to keep fish over eighteen inches as they truly don't have the same taste as the smaller fish. To get away from the crowds check out points and saddles at around the twenty five foot depth.
Lake Trout on Crow Lake have been fairly eager to bite the last few days. One thing that should be noted is the amount of fish coming in and bumping the baits. When a fish comes in to your bait if jigging does not get them to hit just slowly reel your lure to the surface. This seems to get some good reaction strikes as the trout race up to pursue the escaping bait. White tubes, the laker taker, and little cleo's have both produced lately. Thirty five to sixty feet seem to be good depths to start. Hope to see you out there and good luck.

Thanks for the informative report!  Nice pic of the walleye too!  Been so long since I seen one, I've almost forgot what they look like.  :whistling:
