Do you want to support fishing with 2 lines in Minnesota?

I copied and pasted this from another site, I'm not sure if that's okay...I hope so.
Here it is:

I am not sure how many of you know that there is a bill in the Minnesota House and Senate to allow the use of two fishing lines in open water. I am encouraging everyone that wants to support this to contact your state senator or representative to encourage them to support this bill. How many times have we all wished that we could use two lines?

Use the district finder to look up your state representatives. District Finder

Then tell them that you want them to support House Bill HF2610 and Senate Bill SF0972 allowing for fishing with two lines.

If you want the text of the bills here they are:
HF2610: https://www.revisor.leg.state.mn.us/bin/bldbill.php?bill=H2610.0.html&session=ls85

SF0972: https://www.revisor.leg.state.mn.us/bin/bldbill.php?bill=S0972.0.html&session=ls85

Remember if this doesn't get passed it is our fault for not putting pressure on our legislatures. If they don't hear from us they will assume no one cares. But we can do this. If we each send one letter that would be enough.

I agree with having the option to use 2 lines. Wisconsin allready does it and there overall fishing is way better than MN.

I say why not, as long as the limits are still the same, who cares if someone has 2 lines vs one. In reality people will probably miss more fish during a hot bite, the only time fishing with more than one line pays off is to locate or when fishing is extremely slow.

I wouldn't mind having a second line in the water for myself.   :happy1:

I don't think I would want the kids using more then one line.  I know my kids and we would have a lot of tangled lines to deal with.   ;D

And who knows....there might be more fishing rods at the bottom for scuba divers to find as well!  (The scenerio would be while you're tending to one, the other one gets pulled overboard)  :oops1: :whistling:

Most of my clients can barely handle one rod.

Wisconsin has better overall fishing than Minnesota????

I don't think so!!

Then why do I see so many Wisconsin boats on Vermilion?

Ask the Muskie fishermen in Wisconsin where they go on Vacation...

Muskie groups are not in favor of the second line. It would just mean more sucker fishing in Minnesota.

I would like to use 2 lines when I'm trolling, however I am against it becoming law in Minnesota.

I would not be able to use two lines because as soon as my line hits the water I am already reeling in a fish so I would never be able to even cast the second line. :whistling:

I really dont care if it passes or not. I really dont ever see myself doing it. Even though I rarely fish anymore. Even when I fished alot I would not have used two lines. When I was a kid living in Montana, we could use two lines and never did. I just concentrate on the one line and if nothing is biting I drink more beer. When I was fishing alot 90% of that was trolling in a small boat and had to hang on to the rod so you could only handle one at a time anyway.

Have a hard time paying attention to one rod when the pan fish are biteing and when musky fishing there is just no way not that good i quess. People come here and get busted for overlimit of fish now what would happen if they had 2 rods??? Would be good though with a couple people with treble hooks could clean the milfoil out of a lake in a hury trolling, that would be nice.

In my opinion the panfishing is much better overall in Wisconsin than it is in MN. I do live in the cities though which does make a big difference. I would compare Wisconsin panfishing to Northern Mn, where you can find a ton of great lakes for bigger fish. The twin cities area is very poor for overall size of fish and Southern Mn is absolutely terrible, there is an exception to every area, the cities and Souther mn do have some decent lakes but nothing like Northern Mn and all of Wisconsin.

If i were to get in my truck right now and had to catch a limit of 1 pound Crappies within 1 hour of the cities, i'd definitely head over the border.

I'd say Mn is far ahead in Muskie fishing and slightly ahead in Walleye fishing overall. Bass fishing is probably fairly close, but my experience says that Wis is overall a better fishery than MN.

The world record Muskie from Wisconsin was caught over 60 years ago and most people believe it to be a fake. The Hall of fame in Hayward just refuses to make the change because they fear it will cost them tourist dollars.

Pan fish aren't what people travel hundreds of miles to catch. I can go 45 min north of the twin cities and catch 1/2 to 1lb crappies all day long. Wisconsin was at one time the Muskie captol of the world, but that was years ago and now it ain't even in the top 5. There are more 50 inch Muskies caught on Vermilion & Milacs every summer, than the entie state of Wisconsin.

Just because you can't catch any big fish in Minnesota doesn't mean they aren't here. I fished Wisconsin for many years, Infact I still fish the Walleye opener there almost every season.

The catch and keep attitude is alive and well in Cheese land. Until that changes it will always be second class in my book. The conservation congress is a big joke, fisheries managment has little to do with science. It is left in the hands of special interest groups who only have their own agendas to push, not the best interest of Wisconsin or her fisheries.

The WI DNR is virtually powerless to make changes on it's own. We all have our personal opinions on the subject but facts are facts. They can't even come up with a state wide limit on Walleyes. It's all county by county, because they have scewed it up so bad.

im not trying to get anyone angry here, i love fishing this state just as much as you ACE and i know first hand that there is alot of big fish in mn, and i catch a decent number of them a year, i will post pictures all summer long of the bass i catch some are pushing 9lbs and above but i cant register them as a state record because the lake is a catch and release only. and for pike im seen pike so big that it scares me, and i catch a consistant 20 23 inch walleyes for the first month of the season. no one is trying to offend you ACE, hey i like that name. and i seen a picture of this so called fish and it was so old it only had one tooth but that might of been a different photo ill search around for it.

No offense here neither Ace. I just have a different opinion on some things is all.

I am one person who does travel hundreds of miles for panfish, i even take numerous trips to kentucky and Arkansas just for panfish. I'm not saying that Mn does not have good fishing, i'm just saying that my comparison between the 2 states is that Wis is a better fishery overall.

I can go to many lakes in Mn and catch slab crappies or bull sunfish, but i know that I can find more of them in Wisconsin at this moment.

Without naming lakes, i could go on and on about how Crappie sizes have slowly gotten smaller over the last 15 years. many of these lakes are no longer holding bigger fish. i do still catch plenty of big fish in Mn, that is not the issue or point i am trying to make here.

Lastly, i actually like the county by county state wide limits on Walleyes that the Wis DNR has, i dont agree with everything they do, but then again i don't agree with all the MN DNR laws either. But overall, i think Wisconsin is doing a better job in the end.

Just my opinion on this subject, not meant to change your opinion or any others.  ;D

Just to be different. I enjoy fishing and from what i read thats why most people go fishing, Well maybe thats not true anymore, Now why would I want to put twice as meny lines in the water and catch the same amount of fish in half the time and then have to go home. As fare as what wis. nd, sd or iowa does, hey do you go buy your little johny a $2000 trike because mikey next door has one. Now how can we complain about the way the dnr manages the fisheries and wildlife in MN when we keep pushig legeslators to pass laws that the dnr has to follow. Lets face it, the boys on capital hill know little if anything about managing the fisheries or wildlife, they just have people telling them where the most votes might be. Is that the way you want the outdoors managed here?

Believe me, nobody has been offended here. How you can compare state fisheries buy how good the panfishing is in a few Wisconsin lakes is beyond me. The WI DNR has one of the worst records in the country, as far as their fisheries management goes.

I have been fishing longer than many of you have been alive. In my opinion, the fishing opportunities in MN have never been better than they are today. The MDNR has done a great job, especially in the last 20 years.

It's unfare to compare lakes that are constanly pounded by anglers(Metro area lakes)
to lakes that get so little pressure. Northern Minnesota has some great panfishing action, my largest crappie was 17.5 inches and there are plenty of 12 to 15 inch fish up north. All you have to do is come up and fish for them.

Lake of the woods, Milacs, Vermilion, Rainy Lake, Cass lake, Big and little Detroit lakes, Mississippi, Winne, Leech lake, Red lake, these are just a short list of "World class" fisheries for multi species anglers to enjoy in Minnesota. I can't find any comparison to these lakes in Wisconsin. I didn't even mention the BWCA or the lakes up in Voyagures Nat'l park. Cheese and beer maybe but fishing? I don't think so. :toast:
