By brother told me to put a tablespoon of apple vinegar in my dogs water bowl everyday.  He said that it will stop the yellow spots in your lawn, make there coats shiny, and make them healthier.

Is this true or will it kill my dog?  Does it really work?  Will the dog actually still drink the water?

Not sure i feed mine eagle pack, i don't have yellow spots or brown in my yard from the dogs.. A lot of the premium foods you don't have to worry about the yellow spots dogs leave behind, and way less waste as well..

Your brother is right. Apple cider vinegar is one of the only ways to stop the yellow spots. Another alternative is to water the lawn right after they urinate.

Most of these home remedies are old wives tales, but the apple cider vinegar is a proven fact. Basically it balances the high content of Nitrogen in your dogs urine. Nitrogen is good for your lawn but too much will kill it or leave that nasty yellow stain.

Adding a tablespoon of the apple cider vinegar will balance out the high levels of Nitrogen and stop the grass from turning yellow. You can add it to the water dish or directly on the food, both work.

It also varies by what your dog eats, some foods have more protien than others, which causes an increase in Nitrogen. For those of you that have never had this issue, its because your dogs diet is not producing too much Nitrogen. It also does not matter if its a female or male dog, females just tend to urinate in the same spots more often.

I had this problem about 5 years ago and had to do a lot of research to fix the problem. For whatever reason, the food that i was feeding at that time was causing this to happen, once I switched foods, the problem dissappeared on its own.

I'm feeding Purina Pro Plan and have had no issues in a few years, i know that Nutri Source was also good for my dog.

When i had to patch the lawn after all the yellow spots, i just raked away the dead grass, added new grass seed and applied Gypsum all over the lawn, the Gypsum really seemed to help the grass too.
