What about the folks that buy licenses on-line now??  Maybe a short tutorial that they would have to complete before the purchase could be finalized.

I like the idea of MNO hosting our own safety video.  I think it would make a statment as to what we stand for and what we feel is important.

I dropped off some soaps at some of the outfitters this morning, a few are stocking and getting things ready for opening day here..

I  asked 3 outfitters this morning what they thought about a video like i mentioned before, and they all said they would use it.

can you just think even if you had 3 outfitters using it.. what the in pack might be

each out fitters selling hundreds lic?

i know i can get more then 3 as well here..

we all know people at our fav shops ..

I dont know if they a dvd player or a vhs player and tv down by you, but all the outfitters here do

and i am sure great outdoors, would as well here too..

i think its a great idea

and also showing what we stand for
and of course new members..

not hard to make one either..

i am sure a few of us would even toss in some money to make it.

I like all the Ideas.. Retailers should really be involved in this, as should the DNR and hunting organizations as well.  It couldnt hurt, although like Tim said, If yer a poacher/dont have a license, you aint gonna be takin classes or watchin videos... I do like the "brush up" class idea...Yeah NG, I like the video ya have to watch when ya get your BWCA permits... how to put out campfires, leaving no trace, hanging food packs in trees... all good stuff.  Do ya still have to watch those, its been a couple of years since ive gone...

Hunters: Be sure of your target

learn how hunting accidents are caused and how they can be prevented.

To reduce the potential for hunting accidents, injuries and fatalities

anything like these, that people use, or you get off line anywhere

Be absolutely certain of what your target is (and also what is beyond it). If you aren't sure, don't shoot. If you're conflicted, don't shoot. If you can't see clearly, don't shoot.
If you find yourself getting impatient, cold, hungry, thirsty or tired -- be extra-certain you're shooting wisely, and consider taking a break to rest and refresh yourself.
Never shoot at sound or a flash of color.
Remember that other people (including children) will be out there who do not know the rules. Be alert to their mistakes and to their lack of knowledge and experience.
Wear appropriate clothing to alert others to your presence. Make sure your children do, too.
Never think you will never make a mistake -- and never think an accident will never happen to you (or your children).
Always be willing to come home without any game at all.

Charges: Hunter who killed son had beer, pot in his system

By CHAO XIONG, Star Tribune

May 5, 2008

The Belle Plaine man who fatally shot his 8-year-old son in the chest last month while turkey hunting had alcohol and marijuana in his system at the time, according to a felony second-degree manslaughter charge filed today.

Anthony Klaseus, 39, is also charged with felony reckless discharge of a firearm and two misdemeanor charges, trespassing and hunting turkeys without a license, according to Sibley County court documents.

According to the charges:

Klaseus told authorities that he told his son, Hunter, to stay put as he circled a field to approach turkeys about 5 p.m. April 19 in a field east of Crahan Lane near County Road 6 in Sibley County.

"Then I heard something snap or break near me, and a large figure rose up," he told authorities. "I thought it was a turkey, and I shot and it went down. I thought I shot the turkey. Then my son jumped back up screaming and then fell back down."

Klaseus and paramedics performed CPR on Hunter, but he died at the scene.

Klaseus blew a breath test at the scene that registered a blood-alcohol concentration of .06 percent, the charges said. A urine test later showed that he also had marijuana in his system, although the exact concentration won't be known for a few weeks.

At the scene, authorities found two 12-packs of beer, three six-packs of beer, an empty 24-pack of beer and a marijuana pipe in Klaseus' truck, the charges show. The packs of beer contained empty and full cans.

I guessed right away he had to have been drinking... people rarely make that big of a bad decision sober, but its too bad... but either way, his punishment should  be equal either way, drunk or sober...  Ive never understood the "loopholes" in deaths/murders where they give leanience for being intoxicated or being unstable mentally or under duress or the like... and they shouldnt be more severe under the same examples.... it'd be different if he fell with a gun & it went off or he swung on a flying bird and the victim was accidentally hit, but this was a definatly a huge misjudgement in both being intoxicated while hunting AND shooting at an unidentified target... Both equally freaking stupid!  Just the example of showing his kid it was ok to put down a twelver and hunt, and then without a license or permission on someones property... yeah son, this is hunting!  :bs: It just cant be much worse than that...let alone his son dying in the end... :banghead:

I know the type. I bet this guy sees a game animal and if it is open season or not he thinks he has to kill it just because it is there. If the birds were close enough he would have just shot out the window. This guy deserves the whole book at him. What he did is a terrible crime in so many ways. There is no place in civilized society for people that commit acts of this nature. To say his emotional hurt is enough I don't buy it. He is a menace and should be kept from the general population.
Is this different from the woman who put her 11 month old in the tub and went online shoe shopping for 19 minutes and found her child had drown?
If I had shot someone elses child by mistake being under the influence of alcohol and marijuana(no chance by the way) I would suffer the rest of my life for it too. Does that mean I should be a free man to do it again? What about an automobile fatality? I hope the jury protects the rest of us from this guy.

Anyone read the outdoor news about this? Klaseus got 90 days for killing his son with alcohol and marijuana in his bloodstream. The charges for the offenses of tresspass, hunting without a license and illegal drug use were dropped. He also is on a 10 year probation and must go to drug and alcohol treatment. He also may not legally hunt. I think they should have made it part of his sentence that he cannot hunt illegally.

He got 30 days....or should I say nights. They are allowing him to leave jail during the day and go to work. He has to sleep in jail. Whats the point.

I don't understand this comment.  It's already illegal to hunt illegally.

I'm pretty sure he just meant that this guy should not ever be allowed to hunt again.
