Well the season is well under way now and fishing is starting to get better. With water temps warming and the weather stabilizing we are starting to see some predictable patterns. Lake Trout have moved up onto the shallows and are readily being caught by the trollers. Small spinners tipped with a Crow Lake shiner and trolled along shore lines or over reefs has been effective. We are finding them as shallow as six feet. Casting the reefs with a number four mepps spinner or fast retrieving a buzzbomb has also worked well.
Walleyes are being caught steady now and there reports of some good size fish being caught and released. Channels are key right now and twenty feet seems to be the magic depth. These channels more so than not are allowing anglers to have a good mix of crappies and walleyes mixed together. The crappies have been huge with lots of fourteen and fifteen inchers.
Bass have begun to move into the shallows. We were out the other day and could see a nice school swimming in the back of a warm bay. Fishing all around has been good and if we see the weather continue to improve and the water warm it should just get better.
