Any idea where they were fishing?  Is this a bog on a river or how was the formed so that you are basically on a large floating land mass?  That is so cool!

It appears to me that when they first arrive they have come up a river or possibly a lake. Next they step onto to this floating mat of vegetation. Therefore I'm guessing that the river side of the mat is open to the river.

I gotta admit, when I first read this post- Brazillian Ice Fishing-I was leary on looking.  Thoughts  from the movie "40 year old virgin" ran in my head (where they waxed his chest).  That's just wrong!  So you can imagine my fear when I saw this thread title-figuring it was close only further south.  Thankfully it wasn't like that at all.  Very interesting to say the least.

I bet that would work here on largemouth like on the great bogs by Hill city. Them there fish are probably hunting frogs and critters that filter through the weed mat.

very cool.  im guessing its a spcies of catfish.  deffinatly looked like ictaluridae family.

you may not need a ice hosue to stay warm, but you might want one to keep mosquitoes away.  haha
