TRANNY PROBLEM

my car is not shifting into 2nd?? and its over heating,Im sure thats because its reving so hard? its a 99 plymouth voyager van

Bad transmissions in them are very common, thats too bad.

check engine light came on..speedomoter wont work..over heats and wont shift??

This might be a stupid question but have you tried to change the tranny fluid and filter?  I also agree with Pat this is a common problem witht them.

i would say your speed sensor or wiring is at fault. check all
the connections at the tranny.

i checked everything looks connected but im no mechanic, The trany has leakage around the seals as well??

the way i see it. the speed sensor or wiring told the computer
you werent moving. hence the speedo going out at the same
time. now if the computer doesnt see any MPH it will stay in
low gear. i would have it checked with a scanner.. might be a
cheap fix!

well tranny is fine...bad speed sensor is gone along with all the seals gaskets and the intake. was going to be 4,000 to fix..lol..so car is going for sale. thanks for all your help guys.

i would get a second opinion on that... you could get a rebuilt
motor and trans for around that..

ya its the labor cost..its seen a good life 201,754 miles of goodness to our family. So were new car shopping this week. im guessing the the time would be replacing the head gaskets? Not sure crazy i wonder how long we have been driving with them like that. crazy thing is still runs and drives fine darn thing will shift at 4500 rpms..lol..thanks again everyone.

man look at used. You should be able to buy a used motor for one of those cheap !!!
Check into it and if you need a reference let me know. I worked in that feild for 15 yrs

The output speed sensor is really common to fail on these. When they do the speedo stops working and the transmission will default into second gear not first (limp mode). Its to bad that you drove it until you cooked it because the part will run you about $20 at NAPA, and they can be installed by the average do it yourselfer in about 20 minutes.

The input speed sensors will cause the trans to do the same thing, default into second gear, but the speedo will continue to work. The first time you drive it it will shift through the gears but if you come to a stop it will go into limp mode and default into second gear. If you shut the car off and restart it it will shift through the gears again until you come to a stop.

I found this out in cloquet on our town and country. The output went out one weekend, The guys at the frank loyd wright service station hooked me up with the tools I needed as I already had the parts in the glove box. Two weeks later in the very same spot the Input speed sensor failed. Drove the rest of the weekend restarting after coming to a stop.
