Tuesday Sept 30th Report.

Today I had the pleasure of fishing with Fred Helmsstedder and his soldiers Jim and Rodney from north of Milwaukee.
After a brief introduction at 6:15 am we began our day with a lesson in trolling 101. The winds were quite brisk coming out of the North west leaving a nice chop on the water and a chill on our bones.

I figured we ran about 6 laps trolling the flats with only two short hits and one pike boated. The water temp had dropped to 67 degrees and the cloud cover was moving in rapidly. I noticed last week that the coots (mud hens) had started to migrate here and only spotted 3, but yesterday there were about 50 or so. There should be hundreds by now, but it's been a strange year so far with Lots of things being behind so far.

I'm sure looking forward to the first frosty morning hoping that will trigger a better pike movement. We stopped off at the first smallmouth spot and on his first cast Fred got hit and hauled in a largemouth. I told the boys not to worry because this is smallmouth territory. No sooner than after I made that statement we tagged two more fish (bullheads) :doah:.
One of the guys looked over at the other and scratched his head . I think we waited about 25 minutes before the next fish and it was one of the preferred species (smallmouth). Thank goodness, the confidence was restored quickly. Other than 2 pumpkins the rest of the action was all smallies and the boys were getting their grove on.

We noticed that Fred was looking cold by the color of his nose, so I re-offered him a stocking cap, gloves and a jean jacket. For some reason he changed his mind and excepted the offer this time. I couldn't help from laughing since he now looked like one of those convicts on the TV show Lockup. Fred told him all he needed was a couple of teardrop tattoos.

We only tried one other smallie spot and that was working about equal to the first spot. Bottom line was three happy campers, lot's of laughs and some new clients for the guide.

See ya on the water,

Lee

Thanks Doug. In the camera shot it was 23 inches long, but in real life it was 20 inches. :doah:

Good job by the cameraman - never pass up an opportunity to make the fish appear larger (and better looking) than it really is.

:coffee: Just as the Fox News Media, :reporter; we try our best to have fair and balanced reporting on all of our fishing reports. Unfortunately the camera gets in the way of that process from time to time. ;D  :whistling:
