Hey Everyone,

This is my first post on here :toast:.  I am planning on buying a new bow soon.  I shoot a PSE predator right now which is fine, but I am ready to move up to a higher end Mathews, Elite, hoyt, or even Bear.  What are your thoughts on the higher end 08 bows?  Any coming out for 2009 that I should wait for?  Also, I am going to try and trick it out with some good accessories.  Has anyone tried the G5 optix XR sight?  What sights and rests would you recommend.  I was also thinking the Ultra rest HD Pro series rest looks pretty good.

Thanks and good luck in the woods

Try them all and go with the one that really feels good in your hand.  If an archery shop doesn't want to let you try them, go somewhere else.  We know plenty of good shops here - starting with MN Arch.  :happy1:

yeah, not sure where you are located, but I would go to the guys at MN archery in Litchfield.  I've been there a few times and they have done no wrong.  I say it's worth the drive, and I live in Hastings. :doah:

Yeah, I am located in Ellsworth, WI, and usually go to A1 Archery, which is a pretty nice place.  I do plan on trying out quite a few bows, but was more wondering if anyone has really liked a bow that they bought recently or know of any new bows coming out for 2009 that are supposed to be good.

Thanks

If you are buying new, you should take a look at Bowtech also, there 09's are already starting to come out, and they have some nice ones. Your best bet is to shoot them all and pick the one that feels right to you.

This is just my opinion and I feel it has worked best for me on more then just bows. Go to a few shops that carry different kinds of bows and try and gather as much as you can about different brands. You will find a shop that treats you right and you trust and will want to buy from them. Example if you go to a ford dealer and try and get an honost opinion chances are they will say ford is best but if you check around sooner or later you will just find a good honest dealer. I think each of the top manuctuers has a great product and price and marketing sway a lot of people.

I bought a Diamond Balck Ice in July and absolutely love it.  Not to mention the '08 line runs about 150 - 200 dollars less than say a Mathews Drenalin.  As for the G5 optics...I have heard they are sweet sights, but on the same note I have heard that many guys have had issues with different things on them braking.  G5 has had great customer service and sent them new parts very quickly, but the guys have changed sites because they do not want something to break in the woods.  If you want some more details on what i put on my bow and where I got it send me a PM.

I would stay away from the G5 sights.  They are bright, but they are very loud.  I haven't heard a way to quiet them down yet either.  Copper John Dead Nuts 2 is a good sight as are many Toxonics.

I'm confused....How can a sight be loud??

Im not sure how it could be loud except for loose and ratteling parts.  I have a Hammer Head 3 pin.  I don't really think I need 5 pins and that would just junk up my field of vision.  Its a VERY bright sight as well and it's simple -- no level bubbles....I don't need all that junk either.  Just very bright, light weight, and does the job.

If you want something to help lower noice, get a DMi Expert rest.  It has rubber stops at top and bottom of your draw and release so theres no click clack from the release.  I love mine.

I have tried the G5 Optix XR......I loved it. The floating 4th pin allows precise adjustment for the longer shots....very lightweight...pins not as bright as I would like, but the l.e.d. light included makes up for it. Hands down, the nicest light I've seen to date. 7 brightness settings in a well-engineered housing. And you can dial the 4th pin all the way down if you're hunting in cover, making it a simple 3-pin sight.

like others have said, the one that fits you best and feels the best is a good choice, you might wanna take a look at the forgebows.com site, they make a nice, well made bow in  wisconsin, and there prices wont break the bank. good luck
