I'm going to be using a ground blind for the first time this season and I have some concerns about shooting broadheads through the mesh. Anyone have any input on this. I'm also going to be carrying the Rocky Mountain Snypers this year which have a rear deploy blade design(like he Rage)

Any help would be great.

you should definitely fire a few practice shots through the mesh first. I have found that it can alter arrow flight a bit. those snypers might open up when they go through too. I usually just remove the mesh from the windows and keep the windows behind you closed. the deer can't see you any better as long as you wear black.

do not use mechanical broadheads with shoot threw mesh, they open the blades and alter arrow flight. if you really want to shoot with the mesh use any cut on contact broadheads like the monotecs(sp) or muzzys, you will have less resistance going threw the mesh. also you must practice shooting threw it also just to get an idea on how it affects the arrow. good luck :happy1:

Here are my 2 cents on your question Joe.  You can use mec. heads with shoot threw mesh,  but not all heads will work.  Rockett steelhead (now trophy ridge) will work because they use a rubber band to hold the blades in place.  Some people even double up the bands to be safe.  Rage BH work as a rear deploy so there is nothing holding the blades in place becides the friction ring in the back of the head.  Also dont get me wrong, rage heads leave a great hole in a animal.  They just dont shoot threw a blind well.
If you want to use a fixed blade head I would use a smaller diamater head like the muzzy mx4 or a slick trick.  They have a smaller blade diamater and a shorter ferral (the head it self is shorter)
This is just what I think.  Go out and give it a try on the range.

Good luck and have a safe hunt

Thanks for the input guys. I'm carrying three different broadheads this year. The Rocky Mountain 3  blade Snyper(first time hunting with them), Rocky Mountain Extreme(taken many deer with this broadhead, but are now discontinued), and last but not least the Slick Trick Magnum.(shot my first deer with one last season) I think I'm going to unzip the mesh to be safe.

I absolutely would not shoot through the mesh (because I am anal).  Here's why, one of Newton's laws of physics is: With every action there is an aqual and opposite reaction (or it is stated something like that ).  Now the mesh is probably going to have a minimal effect on a broadhead esspecially if it is a cut on contact head, but none the less that transfer of energy in the cutting process is going to go into the arrow.  I am not sure if we are talking 2 FPS or 10 FPS, but none the less we tune our bows relentlessly at the range to shoot well with no resistance except for air.  Yes I am anal, but I would not be able to live with myself if I missed the big boy wallhanger due to my mesh windows!!!

I feel the exact same way as you do.  :happy1:
