In the latest edition of Field & Stream, November 2008, their is an article on page 30 talking about a possible new world record typical in Buffalo County.  They also show still shots from video of this monster.  Anyways, the video is at fieldandstream.com/recordbuck if you are curious.

Long story short, rumor has it this pig was arrowed recently during WI bow season.  Again, a rumor, but does anyone have family or very trusting friends in this area with some knowledge?

I didn't listen to the video, but I would be down right  :censored: :censored: :censored: mad if that was poached.  Just think of a deer of that caliber walking past your stand... I would need a change of shorts.

I doubt scent lok would help.  We're deer hunters and that last time I checked the menu at deer camp, the ending result isn't going to be pretty.

I saw the video at field and street and almost went threw a couple pair of pants just watching the video...On that same note I was watching a hunting show on VS today (one with pat Reeve and that incredibly hot co-host woman, I think it is called Driven TV) and they did a spot light on an Albino that a couple guys have been watching for 4-5 years now.  They are illegal to shoot in WI so they just have tons of pictures and video of the thing and it is amazing.  I think the latest footage was of it last fall 2007, and it was a main frame 6X6.  It was huge.  This buck and the one mentioned earlier in this thread amaze the daylights out of me.  It is incredible that these things can stay alive for so long in an area that is so heavily hunted.  That is why i love this sport so much.  Each and every time you sit there is potential to "win the lottery."

Two of my buddies contract out for Driven TV,...... and yes she wouldn't be kicked out of the sack for eating soda crackers!

If that buck in WI had been photographed with a hunter behind it, and it leaked out in the past few days one of my deer junkie buddies from WI will hopefully send it to me. When/if that happens I will try to get a link to put on here.

I've thrown rocks at bigger deer than that. :rotflmao: But seriously that is one incredible deer.

I think if I saw this deer, I'd let it walk by, and hope that it sire many other young bucks.

I don't think that the Buffalo County Outfitters "potential typical world record" has been killed yet.  My buddy owns land less than three miles from where that buck was videoed and he has not heard anything yet.  He is pretty cozy with all the neighbors and he would find out pretty quick.  As for him being in city limits Cody, I think that was the huge buck that is in South Dakota.  Apparently that buck was right in Sioux Falls and in an unhuntable area at the time it was being taped.  But like all men, he will probably get in trouble when his nose turns to the air and he notices a sweet scent!

I hate to be the guy to rain on the parade but keep in mind that deer was video taped in full velvet making it look larger. If it is a new world record and it is taken LEGALLY that would be awesome. Not that it's not a very impressive deer but every year there's a half a dozen claims of world record bucks being shot and none seem to produce the antler.

I emailed a friend who's uncle personally knows the outfitter and here's what he had been told:

that is a nega-tory red squirrel; Myself here in Dunn county haven't heard such things, I had a buddy who took a real nice 8 pointer this last weekend said when he was registering the deer, the MONSTER came up and a handful of the locals said it had been seen by other hunters but not taken or even shot at...so keep the dream alive

And if the pressure that they are putting on this deer is true he will probably make it through the year. Just got off the phone with a friend who hunts near there and from what he is hearing that video is the last time he was seen.

Very interesting story to follow anyways. It is also interesting to talk Buffalo County. From the stories I hear it is a pretty weird place. People are very protective of their deer down there and who shot what and seen this or that.

Here's a link to what is reportedly the deer that everyone is talking about to be the "field and stream deer" that was passed around the net in full velvet.

Terrible picture, but huge all the same.

So which is it?

The Eau Claire newspaper has him quoted saying, ""I shot a monster, but it wasn't the Field and Stream buck," Decker told Olson, referencing the huge buck that has caused a craze among deer hunters this fall after a video filmed about a half mile from Decker's hunting spot was posted on the Web site of the outdoor magazine."

The Rub Line website says, "On Nov. 1, Bob Decker, of Eau Claire, Wis., killed what was possibly the most famous whitetail in North America.

The buck was filmed earlier this year near Mondovi, Wis., and the video was released on Field and Stream's Web site. Whitetail authorities across the country immediately began to debate whether the giant whitetail could be a walking world record — larger than Milo Hansen's huge Canadian typical."

Is it the same deer?

Olson and Decker approached the buck, which had died on a bed of grass and leaves and was lying on its side. At first glance, Decker figured the animal was smaller than he had thought. He soon discovered otherwise.

Olson reached the buck first and yelled in disbelief to Decker.

"It's the Field and Stream buck!" Olson shouted to his friend. "This is unbelievable! It's the Field and Stream buck!"

Re-read the article. You just misread it.

Here are some more pictures of the deer:

And the dream dies...  So there it is fellow hunters.  The F&S buck is another for the record books.  Congrats to the hunter for a clean, ethical hunt.  Hopefully, we can see the final mount when finished.  Outstanding deer for the ages.

Good luck this weekend and who knows, maybe another one lurks out there...
