Just wanting to get an update on duck population still hanging around the Metro and immediate surroundings.  No need to reveal where you hunt, just wondering a general area.

I hunt the NW burbs and have not seen much.  My backyard pond had 16 mallards and 1 Hen Blackduck on a regular basis (can't shoot since I'm in the city) and they have disappeared.

We went north by Winnie last weekend seeing lots of mallards, ring bills, and very, very few blue bills.  Anyone else?

Where?  N/S/E/W of the metro?  Again, I'm not looking to get honey hole spots to hunt, just curious so I can maximize scouting time as it keeps getting darker sooner.  I keep to 10 min drive from my house in the Elk River area, so anything you know is great.

well i hunt the west metro by victoria on a private marsh, thats only hunted by one neighboor me my boss and one other guy i work with. thinking of going back out on monday. all the action is always in the morning. the evening hunts have not been very productive at all. total of 2 teal 1 wood duck and 2 mallards for the evening hunt, compared to a very productive morning hunt between the 3 of us we shot 14 ducks one morning.

I haven't seen much in the evening myself.  My usual NW spots were completely empty last night so a morning gig might be the trick before the waders get hung up for the season. Thanks Cody!

By the way, how much corn is cut out by you?  Just curious?

:woot:I saw ducks in the usual scout places and they were flying this morning so i think we're gonna let the steel loose again.  Good luck everyone.  Hunt safe.

ive never seen this many bluebills in the greater duluth area.......all the east -west lakes with rice fronds are holding 50- 80 bills......and for some goofy reason im having better afternoon shoots than morning........no mallards....no teal........buffle heads are gone...

I drive Black Duck Road thru the MN River National Wildlife Refuge twice a day and have seen fewer and fewer ducks since the first of October. Lots of geese, but the duck numbers have dwindled. I'm not sure if this is common, but I believe we just haven't had the weather to move those large non-local birds. I hunt in South Central Wisconsin along the WI River and we've seen a HUGE decrease in duck numbers over the years. In fact, we believe now that approximately 70 percent of the ducks we see in this area (and all the way down to the IL border) are local birds. I'd be interested in hearing from folks who hunt along the Mississippi River, which is a pretty good barometer of duck numbers.

I've been out the last two nights in northern Washington county... The first night I saw two small flocks of ducks flying high and tons of geese flying low, never got a shot off. Tonight I was scouting a new found spot and only saw about a dozen or so mallards and they were on the water when i got there, didn't see any flying.
