What a wonderful site. I'm hoping I can get some help from my fellow hunters. I'm a 47 year old professional living in Eagan who grew up hunting with family in Wisconsin. I moved here from Colorado after 10 years in the Rocky Mountain West chasing mulies and elk. I still gun deer and waterfowl hunt in Wisconsin, but it is a bit of a drive/hassle at times. I'm wondering where a guy can go about finding good waterfowl hunting and deer hunting areas in MN. Growing up in a state, or living for a time in a new state, you come to find out places to hunt and fish, but it usually takes a number of years to acquire that info, check it out and then take part. Any way, just curious if anyone has some pointers for someone who loves the outdoors. Thanks and be safe. :deer:

I'm sure you'll enjoy the site and what it has to offer for you drunkensconny.

As far as finding areas to hunt I would suggest on doing some research for public lands around the state, and getting a feel of how far you would like to travel to do so. You could always go door knockin if you think you need something closer.

I'm from the Rochester area, but I have found numerous state/county administered lands up in Aitkin county (near Mille Lacs) where our cabin is by checking the county websites, and purchasing public land maps. I believe the latest issue of the Minnesota Sportsman has the top counties for trophy deer listed, and that is a great indicator for where you might want to start looking.

I'm not from the metro, or a waterfowler, but I'm sure some other members can lead you in that direction.

Good luck,
Alex
Marry an outdoors woman. Then if you throw her out into the yard on a cold night, she can still survive.

Maybe try to find a local hunting club and ask around for the "hot spots". The public hunting map is AWESOME! I have found some decent spots real close to home using one. Check one out.
