I had a very interesting coversation with a nameless person this week and he pointed me in the direction of an extremely hot bite!

I guess there is a lake near where he lives that used to be a muskie rearing pond used by the DNR. Well it no longer is used but it is full of muskies! I guess guys are going out there and having 20 fish days. They aren't full days either. Due to the lake being so weedy they have to fish them with topwater lures. The muskies hit the bait so hard they fly out of the water. All the fish are ranging from 35 to 40 inches with a few over 40 mixed in. The info comes from a very reliable and reputable source. Due to a busy schedule I can't make it now but a friend and I already have planned a trip in late August. He will be using a fly rod and I will be using a standard set up. This will be my first muskie as I have only caught Tiger's in the past. Doesn't this sound exciting...? ;D

Anyone else have any secret lakes like this...It would be fun to share our secrets without revealing the secret. Anymore? :)

Nope don't have any secrets like that but 3-4 days of real hot weather seem to turn the muskie bite on. I do however have some secret walleye spots like that.

What usually happens is they stock the pond and then can't get them out so they quit using the pond or it's too big (expensive) to kill off to restock.

Well the muskie on this lake still are hammering anything you throw at them. This weekend a couple guys went out on Saturday and as aggresive as these fish are they spent $125.00 at the local baitshop before they headed out Sunday. They did very well...

I can't take it anymore, I am hitting the lake tomorrow!

 ;D

Stay tuned for a full report....

Well we made it out...pretty fun. We didn't hook into any huge fish but we each caught about 5 that were around 30 inches...some were smaller and a couple were bigger. They were really skinny fish though. I think there is probably a shortage of food in the lake. They sure do respond well to topwater baits! We used buzz baits and they hammered them. A couple hit it so hard they flew out of the water.

I should of brought a video camera! :-\

Looks like fun.  I've been on old walleye rearing ponds and haven't caught a thing so you guys did pretty good from my standpoint.

How long did it take you to get to the 'Lake'?

Its about 2 hours from the cities.

The tough part was the road that leads to the lake. It is an old minimum maintenance road and believe me...there has been no maintenance. Its not even a road...it's a trail through the woods.

Un-roads are the best!  2 hours north, south, east, or west?

If you could just tell me what road to turn off of on the way to the cabin that would be great.   ;D

That's what trucks are for...  Again when we going with canoe, trolling motor, and camera in hand?
