  • My first Wisconsin deer October 2008
I got myself in this horrible prediciment with my boss and dont know which route to go on this ordeal.

Here's the deal I decided to go shotgun hunting this year and I borrowed a gun from a buddy and it's probably not what your thinking right now, anyways I was going to buy a scope to use on it and then one day I got to talking with my boss over lunch (I should mention it is just me and him at work, very very small company) I have worked for him just about 9 months now, and he mentioned he might have an old one laying around I could buy from him if it held it's zero, so I thought why not?

Well that was my first mistake, he brings it in and it is in good shape minus the fact that the verticle reticle actually was adjustable and he had a piece of tape over the knob. I asked him what that was about and he said that the plastic screw that held the turret adjuster/cap was broke, so he said I should try to glue it with super glue and it held great.

That weekend I mounted it and sighted it in and it held zero just fine and then the first weekend hunting I walked this very nasty treeline to a woods during a drive and when I got done I realized the cover was gone, my first thought was OH SH!T, but then the more I thought about the situation the more I began to think he knew about this should it be my baby or not?

I called bushnell and they said it would be around 20 bucks to ship it both ways and that they might have the part for it and if not I would have the option of buying a new one half price, but the kicker is that the scope is a Bushnell Banner and he thought he paid 50-60 bucks when it was new and then he told me that he wanted 40 for it and I am having an extremely hard time figuring out how to deal with this without ticking him off.  Any help will be appreciated.

I thought at first here you were going to say he loaned you a kahles or swavoski (sp) and wanted around full price.

here are the options.

1. you walk in toss it on his desk tell him how the thing cost you a big buck and then start sobbing uncontrollably

2. give him 40$ then tell him how the same scope is going on ebay for 1000$ right now because they only made a dozen of them then tell him he can buy it back for 200$

3. do the jedi mind trick on him and everytime he brings it up say "I don't have the scope your looking for" or course you have to wave you hand in front of him

4. wrap it up and give it to him as a christmas present this year

ok ok ok ... I'm sorry I couldn't resist, it's late I'm bored... for 40$ and to keep you boss happy.. I would just buy it

Gold tip,
I was always taught that if you borrow something from someone it should come back in the same condition or better than when you got it. I also expect this when I loan something out. For the amount of money we are talking about here, I would have already sent it in or bought a new one just to make sure the peace is kept with your boss. Hey if you can't afford it just tell your boss you will need a raise to take care of it! ;)

Yeah i would have to agree. $40 isn't always easy to give up, but to keep a situation from going south it is probably worth it.

Goldtip,
I also had thoughts of you having an affair with the bosses wife, burning down his buisness etc.  Anyway we know the max cost to you will be $40.00 one way or the other.  Auggie is right, always return a borrowed item in the same or better conditon than when you get it.  Being he knew the knob was broken, maybe you can show him and let him knwo it will cost XX to fix.  Who knows.  Good luck.

I sure like that Avatar Wagz. Throw the scope on his desk and tell him what a piece of junk it was and to never borrow you anything again.  :titanic:

If you tell him you had an affair with his wife i'm pretty sure he'll forget all about the scope.

Does he have a daughter?  Ah...that might cost you more than $40...but someday you might own the company!

The boss gives you a broken scope for Christmas and you think it was nice of him.   :rotflmao:

Just kidding, glad it worked out.
