I was just wondering if anyone knew about when the second rut starts? I have never had much luck with seeing any thing different in the deers actions after the first rut so any info would be great. I know it happnes from things that I have read so I might be just missing it but I hunt almost every day so not sure how that would happen.

It is sporadic. Only the doe's that were not bred in early november will re-cycle and this happens 28 days after the 1st cycle.. You could have a group of 4 doe's and only one of them will go through the estrous cycle again. It is not the show you usually see in early november, things will tone down quite a bit. I would time it starting a week or so again and possibly lasting through the next week or two. Some schedules get off etc.... so it is unpredictable to the day. Remember you could only have 3 doe's in 1 square mile that re-cycle so any buck that is still looking will key in on them and that may be nowhere near where you are hunting so you may never see a thing. Sorry to sound so pesimistic but this is deer hunting  ;)

If you can get in on some does without spooking them near bedding, staging, or feeding areas you should be able to monitor if a buck is cruising to see if another doe will come into heat. The does I have been seeing are very wary and nervous and have probably been trained by slugs flying over thier backs. Unless you have a prime spot that gets little to no pressure from gun season, the bucks will probably be cruising right at dusk, and in the woods way before sun up from what I've been experiencing lately.

I just sat a morning with my muzzleloader, and witnessed a small six point trailing behind a doe and a fawn. He could be looking for company, or could be following her due to her smell. Like Tim said, it's probably a toss-up anyway you go this time of the year!

Good luck!
Marry an outdoors woman. Then if you throw her out into the yard on a cold night, she can still survive.
