Crud.  I headed to the north end of Mille lacs yesterday for my first trip of the year.  What a lousy trip.  We stopped and bought our road pass.  The guy at the resort warned us to stay on the road or we would get stuck.  Being my first trip up, I had no idea how true his statement was.  We found a spot and we decided to stop.  After some discussion, we decided to find a clear spot 30 feet or so off of the road as not to drill too close to the road.  We spotted a perfect spot.  The plowed area wasn't too deep and the ice was clear just on the other side for drilling holes.  I lined up for a short "run" to pop through the deeper stuff.  I went into it and IMMEDIATELY sunk a foot or so.  I didn't know how bad it was until I forced my door open through the snow against my door and I promptly sunk up to mid thigh in a slushy drift and lost my shoe when I pulled my foot out.  What a mess!!!  We finally got freed.  Never even wet a line.

I understand they know what they are talking about.  I was trying to be respectful and not drill on their road.  I have NEVER seen slush like that in 20+ years of ice fishing.  Well, just once in Ely, but I was on foot.  So there.  Dangit.  We still never got to  :fishing2: and that sucked.  Oh well.  Maybe gonna try this weekend closer to home.

On January 3rd I was up on Millacs watching this dude.  Reverse, drive, reverse, drive, reverse, drive..........Finally he got out and sunk up to his thigh.  After a few hours of watching they finally got out so we went to check out the spot they were stuck.  Here is what we found.

If you know the owner please let him know I have his shoe. :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:
