I will begin framing my basement soon, and will be purchasing a framing (and eventually a finish) nail gun tomorrow when I order my framing materials.

Does anyone have any advice/experience with a good, yet inexpensive brand for a framing and/or finish nail gun? I have a 4gal air compressor that I will be using.

After I am finished in the basement, I won't be using either of the guns all that much (finish gun more than framing, I suppose).

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

As with any air tools, I put a couple drops of air tool oil in them before using.  Then I have a rag  handy and keep it by the exhaust.  The first few trigger pulls might be a bit oily.

Moisture kills air tools.  That's why you use the oil.  I run a moisture trap on my air lines.  But it's not necessary.

You probably knew these already, but it doesn't hurt to have a reminder.  :happy1:

It's never a bad idea to run your lines through a silica drier. I don't own any air tools.... yet. So I'll be reading these posts for advice too!

Check the pawn shops. I purchased a like new Bostich framer for half the price of new. Many young contractors are selling tool to pay bills these days.

i have a bostich framer too, has worked great. got it
at menards. i guess you couldnt go wrong with a bostich
finish nailer either. they sell a brad nailer that shoots
up to 2 inch nails, great for small work, a finish nailer
shoots up to 3 and a half inch long and down to 2 inch
i think.

Here is the bullet proof nailer Paslode F350S PowerMaster Plus Framing Nailer, 2" to 3-1/2"
It run around 250.00 but if you can find used much cheaper. For one basement just about any nailer will get the job done. Store brands like tool shop or camshell will do just fine. I had the paslode framer for about 6 years never a problem and I'm general contractor. As for finish nailer a combo pack is probley the cheapest way to get good set up with 18g pin nailer 16g finish nailer.

I would  go with a paslode or a dewalt im am a contracter and i use both and they work very well. You could also get the hitachi framer the newer one with flames on it is light and work ok from home owners that don't use them day in and day out and you can pick them up at a pawn show for just over a hundred bucks. for finisking get a combo pack.

for framers, yes try the pawn shop first...  oil them, yeah, one other thing that I have not seen mentioned here yet, try to find one that will shoot a nail that is held together by paper and not the plastic.  the plastics is nasty, messy and the shards can hurt when the shoot out.
If a gun kills people then I can blame a pen for my misspells?

i am a contractor and my last choice of a nail gun for a contractor would a paslode or dewalt. they just dont hold up!!! the are always in the repair shop. but for a home owner i would not hesate on buying one for a once in a while small job. check pawn shop a poter cable is a good home owner gun as well. stay away for bostich can only use their wire strip nails all other paper strips are interchangeable.   if you get a tool shop or a campbell housfield it wont last more than that job. i have seen them blow apart after one day of good use at 100 psi!!

If you own them you will use them, buy the best you can afford, not something to be used as a throw away tool. If you are just going to use a framer for the basement why don't you rent a good one and be done with it then?

Well, just got back from Menards and ended up going with a Bostitch framing nailer and finish nailer. Should work out for what I need it for!

Didnt't want to rent since I don't know when I will be able to work on it all the time....going to be little bit of nights and weekend type job for me, and renting didn't seem to make sense.

Sorry I didn't see this sooner. I get all my tools at Harbor Freight. They have their own line of tools and have great prices on them.

I have a cordless paslode framer.. have run thousands of nails through it.. this also is great for building deer stands when your dangling from a tree trying to start a nail.

Never fails. I always ran out of gas in the middle of the woods. Forget the extra cartridge in the truck. Walk all the way back to get it, just to find it fell out of my pocket under the stand...... ;) I get going and then the battery dies. Anyone else been here?
They work decent as well and are quite handy but really not made for big jobs IMO.

Another  :happy1: for the Paslode, I have had one for about 8 years have ran boxes of nails through it. Built everything from sheds to garages to fences with it. Can't remember the last time I drove a 16pd nail with a hammer.. Of course for me it is something that I do for a living so spending the money on it made sense.
