Which do you have or is on your list of things to buy for this upcoming ice season?

Marcum or Vexilar?

I have a Marcum LX3 stilll, but will be upgrading to an LX5 in the next couple of months. Up until 2 1/2 years ago I was a diehard Vexilar user, my first flasher was a Vortex and then a couple years later a Vex. After I tried someones Marcum LX3 a few years ago on Red Lake, I sold my Vex and haven't looked back.

I have heard that Vexilar has a couple of nice new units coming out this year. Nothing new from Marcum this year though, but they have been way ahead of Vexilar for the last 2 years, in my opinion Vexilar has finally caught up again.

Now when Marcum comes out with there new products next year, it will be another few years before Vexilar catches up, since Vexilar has put all there eggs into this years new products, it'll be a while before they  come out with anything new. Thats why I'll continue to be a Marcum fan!

These statements are just my opinion and not based on any facts.

Oh god... here we go with the vex/marcum debate.  ;D
I own a fl-18, I like it.  Never any problems and I love the bottom lock split screen.  I get great seperation.  Do marcums do the same thing? ya.  what's the difference? price for me.  At the time the fl-18 was way cheaper.

My opinion is they are both good, but I own a vex.

I have a Marcum LX-3.  I like it.  Never had a problem with it.  Battery life is good.  Seperation iz good.  Zoom is good.  Customer service is great.  I like their pack setup better than Vex.  I don't like Marcums swing arm.  I modified mine to use a float like a Vex.

I have a Zercom ZTS an a Vexilar FL 8 and this yr I'm planning ongetting a Marcum LX5. I will be getting rid of the Zercom then. I've looked at the LX5 and others and believe the LX5 is just a step ahead of the rest, that's why I've choosen the LX5.

If I were to buy a new unit I would have to go with a Vexilar. In the past I have had positive things to say about Lowrance but if I were to buy a unit tomorrow I think Vexilar is the only way to go.
