Which do you own? Jiffy or Strikemaster.

I have a Jiffy, but used to own a Strikemaster. I know Strikemasters customer service is unbeatable, because I've experienced it first hand about 4 years ago.

I honestly don't think you can go wrong with either brand. Strikemasters are lighter, Jiffy's are heavier. I think a Jiffy will last a lifetime if taken care of though.

Well we have the eskimo shark with the chainsaw motor.  The thing starts on the 1-2 pull EVERY time we used it.  Never had any problems when it gets real cold and it is nice to be able to lay it down on the ice while it is running.

i have electric and for electric there is no doubt....  strikemaster.
Having the onboard battery option or direct hook up to a deep cell is nice.
but onboard battery is key.

I have a Strikemaster.  Mine bogs a bit and I had to get the carb rebuilt last fall.  I was pissed cuz I did what I was supposed to do for storage.  But the blades seem to stay sharp and cut nice.  The choke lever is a little flimsy.  I've heard good things about Strikemaster customer service but have yet to experience it.  They were pretty stand offish when I spoke to them about the fact that I had to get a carb kit for a 1 YO motor.  They said it was an issue for Tecumseh, not Strikemaster.

What I will say is that the service provided for Strikemaster at D-Rock was awesome.  Those guys took my motor, mostly disasembled by me  :-\ ,  and did everything they said they would overnight to the thing ready for me for a trip.  These guys also have refurbished units at a good price.  I'd buy one.

What I will also say is that you should not buy anything from Trails End Bass Pro shop in Fridley.  Thos guys are jack arses.

ok, not to get this thread off topic, but I'll second the service from d-rock.  THat is where I purchased my gas strikemaster auger from and got a great deal and they worked with me.

D-Rock, I can vouch for them too....Did some work early for me last year and helped me revive a 15+ year old Jiffy.

It was cheap and the service was great.

I have one of each. ;D, but the Jiffy hasn't come down from the rafters for a few years now.

I have a Jiffy purchased from Spinach no less.  I can't compare but mine works great and my buddy has had the same jiffy for 15 years and has punched a gazillion holes with it and it still runs great.  A great website (besides this one of course) that deals strictly with ice fishing with several forums for question/answer is www.iceshanty.com.  Many people on this site speak to the benefits of using opti-oil instead of synthetic or petroleum based oil when mixing with gas.  The product also contains a fuel stabilizer which helps the auger run better.  People use one gas can for all of their equipment with 2 cycle engines so they don't have to have separate gas cans with different oil:fuel ratios.  I have never used it but the testimonials are sure supportive.  Opti-oil is not a synthetic and if you want to read more about it you can go their website.  I don't have the address but if you google it you should be able to find it.  About the only place in my neck of the woods that I found that handles it is Hans Hardware in Hopkins.  It comes in different size foil packets for mixing.

o.k. I have to post my opinion, there was this get together up north and I remember someone with a jiffy and me with the strikemaster, 5:00 A.M, someone gets this hair brained Idea to have a drilling contest 3 to 1 with the red handle one.. :)
not to mention any names though.
Wonder where Ely has been?  ;D
I have had the strikemaster for years and there is with out a doubt that there customer service is A-1

I didn't think you fish the hard water...  I thought you took a leave of absence from work and headed to open water for walleye's during the winter...  ;D

Those spots of yours on The Pond work in the winter also?

I have a strikemaster and love it. A buddy of mine owns a jiffy and loves it.

I can't speak for jiffys costomer service but stikemasters is top notch. Thay fixed it free of charge after the warrenty expired, even though the problem was partly due to my neglect. Was just a carb problem that I could have fixed, but I'm not good with little tiny parts.

9" Jiffy Stealth! Hang on or she spin ya!  :P

Love that thing. Tweaked the shaft up on red last year though. Got a new and I am ready to rock.

Was out in the garage last weekend at midnight bored (Work nights) So I fired it up! Wife came out abused me verbally for a couple min. but it was worth it!

I have a Strikemaster Mag2000 8" and I really like it. The chipper blade seems to cu really well, and plenty of power for me in the 2hp motor.  I just got the unit from D-Rock this year as a demo. I can vouch for D-Rock as well. They were really helpful with me!

Only really problem I've found is that the exhaust really spews oil. I'm running Amsoil in it at 100:1, meticulously mixed, and there's still oil coming out of the exhaust after i cut a few holes. I actually ended up getting oil all over a new jacket two weekends ago  >:(.

Still, auger runs really good and does a great job. I wouldn't hesitate recommending them!

::)  Boy Thats a tuffy! I wish I owned a gas auger period! I have a a blue mora (made by strikemaster) with 7 inch blades and I can cut ice 30 inches thick in about 1 minute with new blades, but boy it wears me out hopefully I can come across a nice gas auger for sale this summer at a garage sale.  But if I had a choice it would be a Strike master only because there cheaper!  But there both pretty much the crap!!!!
