Anyone ever get the chance to hunt aligator?
I had this chance In Georgia one night. We were down there fishing Tarpon during the day and A gator bioligist was offering guided trips in which we could snare them with a pole snare then measure and tag them. It was awesome The night was perfect for spotting because it was drizzling so they had the membrane that covers thier eyes up for diving. It made them easy to spot if you hold a spot lamp right up by your face. The Gator eyes then glow red. You could not get the reflection if it was held at your waist. There were about 100 pairs where we launched the canoes. This is just a little 4 footer that I got to snare. They are pretty cool animals and the skin is really soft and supple.

ive never hunted them but they are tasty, my dad wants to hunt them but it is very expensive. plus who wants a alligator skin hanging on the wall? my dad and mom i guess  :rotflmao: :rotflmao: i think it would be fun but not worth the price. i think its like 10,000 plus 2000 for the trophy work.

I have never had the chance myself. Had a friend talking about going a few years back. One thing I remember him saying is how you can estimate their length by the distance between their eyes - One foot in length per inch between the eyes. Not sure how true it holds but I found it interesting. And I agree, they are pretty tasty!

I believe it was in louisiana an for a guide would have been about 550. Now after thinking about it, it's been longer than I thought. It was about 16-17 yrs as my daughter was still in diapers an I couldn't swing 550 back then.
