Sounds tempting Scott but I just have too much to do.

I have heard that the Mississippi up in the Anoka/Elk River area has been unbelievable lately!

You should try that...

I have not heard about the hot smallie action up there, I HAVE SEEN IT!!! COME ON, I have a bunch to do also but I need my fishing fix...

The Dayton Launch is 15 minutes from my house.? We have caught 8 - 12 each time out and we have only gone up stream 1/2 mile...? Now I have an anchor so we cruise up stream, anchor and get out and wade the spots...?

Lance Bainville came over and met me for a river trip on the Mississippi river yesterday near Dayton; we were on the water by 6:00.? It didn?t start off too good considering the first battery I tried was dead, despite charging it for 6 hours on Monday night.? So down to one battery (fully charged) we heading up river to a few of the spots we have hit in the past.? It was a slower ride then normal up river, as the rain on Tuesday night has brought the river up at least 4?.?

Lance?s first cast resulted in a nice ~ 14? smallie, so I figured this was a good start.? One more fish from this spot and we headed more up river.? The River was dirty from the recent rains so rattle traps, crank baits and topwater is what I figured was going to be the key.? The next spot resulted in a few more fish, including me getting in on the act, with a smallie that decided to hit my top water, while I was reeling it in under Lance?s line.? One more stop a little further north resulted in one more smallie on top water, with plenty missed on both sides.?

We saw a couple boats a little further North of us, so we ventured up to take a look.? A little stretch of shallow water with a pretty good current made us paddle a little bit, but once we got there more rock structure awaited us.? The fish were active hitting Lance?s buzzbait and my topwater popper, but it only resulted in us pulling just a couple more fish.? Lance even had a trailer hook and they would still miss the hooks, somehow.? The hooks sure didn't miss my shoulder when I had teh topwater come flying back at me.? ?

We parked the canoe and waded up stream a bit more with Lance hooking up once and a few short bites on my topwater.? The slack water that I found up at our last spot had the fish holding tight to the bank, and if you didn?t basically have you lure fall off the bank into the water you would not get any action.?

The fish were bigger in size then my past trips out there.? Still looking for the biggen, but plenty of time till ice season is here.?

Thanks Lance for coming out with me, anytime you want to head out, just let me know.

We caught 3 or 4 like this on the night.?

Here a few from Andy & I's trip last Saturday.? This little fellow gave us a nice little air show for 5 or 6 jumps till Andy landed it.?

I will hopefully be out there on Saturday afternoon with a buddy.  He knows where there are some kitties.  Hopefully going to shoot some of this on video.
