Was out from 6 AM to 7 PM yesterday with a couple of good friends. One's a fellow guide and the other is an ex-pro walleye fisherman. Anyway, morning was pretty tough for sure. Had some bites off of jigs with plastics or minnows but nothing to show for it. Went up the vermmilian to the railroad bridge and couldn't get anything. Thought we did manage a cat early on. Late morning I switched over to a lindy and Bang, walleye. It was a shorty, but at least had boated one. About ten minutes later, had a nice keeper on. Man, this was turning into a good day huh? One buddy switched to a snell after that and he got a shorty off a crawler. We caught a few more shorts, folks around us were caching with consistancy as well, but lots of shorts, and then it was time for lunch.

Got back on the water about 1:30 or so. Action stayed consistantly slow, but there was action. Probably about a hundred boats around us and there was always someone pulling in an eye. Lot's of shorties with some nice keepers mixed in.

One thing I saw that was very nice to see, I didn't see one fish over 20" kept in the livewell. It appeared to me all the guys out there had respect for the fishery and through all over 20" back for breeding and most were full of eggs. Very nice to see as I rarely if ever keep a 20" or more fish. All in all it was a good day and we brought four nice ones home for the pan. Probably boated 20 or so in all between the three of us.

Water is way up at about 38 degrees. It's moving pretty fast as the damn as been open since Thursday. Really need the debree gone and the water to clear up. Fish the seems you see and you should find fish. Once the water is in the mid to upper fourties the action will pick up. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks, we'll see lots of action out there.

Here is a pic of the water and the amount of boats in front of us. Not great as these were taken from my cell phone:

From the back of the boat, you see even more fishing.

Here are the four keepers that were brought home for a nice meal.

Friends are like buttcheeks..........crap might separate them, but they come together in the end.

Water temp is way up to 38 degrees? nice. It looked like you were on the lock side . the water temp the last few weeks started around 40.1 in the morning and rises accordingly to current air temps. I think a few weks still? but who knows?

Great report sandman! :happy1:

Just shoveled down some eye for dinner. MMMMMMMMMMMM man that is tastey stuff.

Best way I found to make it is I cube it up and sprinkle Mrs. Dash on it. Then I roll it in shore lunch. I beat two eggs up really good and dip them in the egg and then back into the shore lunch for a second coat. Then it's into a pan of oil to deep fry for a couple of minutes. Very tastey stuff.

We were there on the 28th also. We boated 8 saugers and 1 walleye. 1 keeper. 16" walleye, the rest were short saugers. We played bumper boats for the morning bite, but in the afternoon, we were on the other side of the shore where there was less traffic. We caght most of our fish there. It was nice to be out on the open water again! Hoping the fishing picks up in a couple of weeks.
A good day on the ice is better then a great day at work.
