Question. Have any of you ever used Rain-X on your depth finder screen. I was already to apply it and saw that Rain-X recommends not using it on plastic unless approved by the manufacturer.

Thanks for any help.

I'm really not sure what to say Doug, besides if the manufacturer does not recommend using it on plastic, i'd be very hesitant on trying it. I would guess that it wouldn't harm anything but who knows???

Not sure what type of locater you have, but this is something that I do for my flashers in the winter to block the sun.

I use a coffee can and paint it solid black, I think it would be the 5 # can, anyways the size that fits perfectly over your flasher head, I started doing this about 10 years ago because of the sun blocking my view, Vexilar also has a sun shield that in my opinion is worthless, only because of how light it is and the price $$$.

The coffee can works great and only takes a few minutes to sand and paint, I would guess that you could use your imagination and add some clear plastic wrap with Rain X over the can and get the same results.

Maybe someone else can take this idea one step further?

Lowrance got back to me today. Here is their feedback.

Thanks for the email inquiry,

We have found that plain Windex actually works quite nicely. Make sure there is no AMMONIA because it will damage the screen. Also, Scratch-X, made by the Meguires car care company when applied to the display, will lay down a barrier to the water and repel off.

Thank you for choosing Lowrance Products.
