Lake Geneva Report Wednesday 6/3/09
 
Today was a day of "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly"


The Good......  being some nice fish were caught today.

The Bad........   being my battery was only half charged due to a bad extension cord.

The Ugly........ being the best smallmouth I've seen on Geneva in 3 yrs was lost at the net today.

Had the pleasure of fishing with the president of the Des Plaines Lunker Busters Jeff Berg and his partner in crime Harry today. We fished with Carolina rigged crawlers today trying to work them slowly despite the strong wind that had developed some whitecaps eventually. Mostly we focused depths of 10 to 15 ft with most of the fish in a suspended mode lately. I decided to drop back to the first major break on the area we were at and Jeff socked into a dandy. This was the best smallie I'd seen in 3 yrs on Geneva. Between the strong wind, me leaving the helm to net the fish at the bow and the unmanned trolling motor we managed to loose the fish at the net.

They say "The best part of loosing a fish is that it can be as big as you want it to be" But.....but.. honest folks this one was a real wall hanger and Jeff and I talked about it the rest of the day. Anyhow my boys won't have to drive home thru the alley on this day since they did just fine with the rest of the fish.


*Fish are, of course, indispensable to the angler. They give him an excuse for fishing and justify the fishing rod without which he would be a mere vagrant. But the average fisherman's average catch doesn't even begin to justify, as fish, its cost in work, time, and money. The true worth of fishing, as the experienced, sophisticated angler comes to realize, lies in the memorable contacts with people and other living creatures, scenes and places, and living waters great and small which it provides.
