Strawberry coon

   Here is something that you don't see very often. This is a strawberry coon I just finished for a client. It is on display @ the Blue Earth County fair this weekend, and then it will head to Game Fair.

Is this a rare species of coon or is it any oddity such as an albino deer?  Great looking mount by the way!!!!

   Just a plain old coon that happens to carry a gene for red hair. Fairly rare you could say, kind of like an albino. I know a gentleman that raises several different color of coon in Indiana, including black, strawberry,white, and the regular color you see all the time. Hope that answers your question. Thanks for the info, I had no idea.  Another question, in order to get the single color coon, do you have to breed with only certain colors to get a color (genetics and breeding game) or you just get what pops out?

   He breeds like colors but sometimes gets different colors in a litter than its parents are. It is a genetic thing. Probabilities game I guess you could say.
