The seasons have changed. Fall weather is officially here! Temperatures this past week have been in the low 50s and upper 40s, and the trend looks to continue into this week. North winds made for some rough water and tough fishing conditions on the south end of the lake this past week. Most of the boats have been fishing outside the Lighthouse Gap, in Four Mile Bay, and in the river. The bite has been sporadic, but some quality fish are being caught. Anchoring and jigging has been the best presentation with fathead minnows, frozen shiners, or live shiners.

The water temperature in the river has been steadily dropping each day. Today it’s down to 53 degrees. The temperature in the main lake is actually colder in places. This will need to change, and should soon, to get the shiners running consistently in the river. Fishing should change for the better fairly quick with the water temperatures continuing to drop.

The arrival of cool fall weather has been perfect for the hunt club. The dogs sure do appreciate the cooler temperatures. No bugs to deal with either. So head up north! October is the perfect time to land a big walleye in the Rainy River.

Fish On!
