well, despite everyone's reports, we had a great opener up by Alexandria.
I took my two younger boys, and my new dog Boogaard who is not quite 9 months old and we got 8 ducks on Sat. and 9 on Sunday.  Mostly ringbills, a few woodies, a mallard and a teal.  I saw more ducks this year then ever in the last three openers.  It was cool to see some big flocks of ringbills (20-30 birds, one flock of about 40) roar into the decoys.  I am glad the boys got to hear them and witness the divers dropping in from a mile up to 5 feet off the water in a matter of seconds.  It's been a while since I have seen the big flocks like this come dropping in.  It reminds me of growing up and seeing those numbers all the time hunting in the 70's.

Nice pic's John. Glad you had luck. Saturday we shot 2 geese and 9 ducks and Sunday we shot 4 ducks. The people that I was with said it was the worst they have seen.

 That's outstanding John

Nice to see your sons and young Lab experience what both you and I use to enjoy, when ducks were plentiful.

Hope you continue to ejoy such good luck the rest of the season

I hunt not to far from Alex myself.  It was the worst opener I can remember in at least 12 years.  We did manage 12 birds, and that was better than most.  But the ducks just weren't around.  Didn't see anywhere near the normal amount.  They were there til the youth hunt and next day gone.

Sure have had a good season since opening weekend though, as weather keeps new birds coming down.  It's to early for all the swans to be moving, but they were yesterday.  Filled with greater and lesser bills and ringbills yesterday in less than 2 hours and had to watch the goldeneyes and gadwalls land in the decoys.  Fun day, but short weekend as I filled on friday during the snowstorm also.
