It has been a busy weekend here on Lake of the Woods.  This past week fishing was real good one day and then slower the next. There hasn’t been a consistent pattern, but during certain parts of the day the fish are really turning on. You just have to wait out the slower periods of fishing. The guys having the most success are keeping some distance from the crowds of boats. A number of nice fish have come in this week, including a 31” walleye on Tuesday from the Lighthouse Gap, and a few other fish in the 30” range. Charters have been heading west to Zipple Bay and picking up limits of walleye and sauger there, with an occasional big fish in the mix. The best fishing has been in 17-24’ of water out from the Lighthouse Gap, out from Pine Island, and in Zipple Bay. Even when fishing has been slower, there has been a lot of sauger biting. The go to presentation is simply anchoring and jigging with a live or frozen shiner.

River fishing remains inconsistent with some good action coming early in the morning or late in the evening. The water temperature has been steady, holding just above 42 degrees much of this past week. With the lighter current in the river, a 3/8 ounce jig has been enough weight to maintain contact with the bottom.

The Hunt Club has been busy as well. A couple groups each hunted over 70 birds this past week! There are still plenty of pheasants left.

The weatherman is calling for temperatures in the low to mid 40s for all of next week. With winter just around the corner, now's the time to experience some great open water walleye fishing before it's too late. Book your winter trip now to ensure availability for prime dates.
