Have your cousin call the tip line.  It is illegal to harrass a hunter.
Anything that is free is worth saving up for.

he already did. but the cop said that there was no proof other than his word against the other guys. he also asked why he was even hunting public land when my grand parents own 285 acres right across the river from there plus they rent 100 acres of potlatch from the state...

Yeah, that stuff is lame...too bad.  If people could just follow the ole golden rule and treat others like they would want to be...  I remember one year walking to my stand, after coming back from lunch in camp, & a guy was in my stand.... after talking to the guy for a bit we realized we knew each other, he always checked in at our camp when driving into the area on a fire road, he asked me, do you want me to find another spot?  I kind of thought it was funny, but I said no, youre here now, Ive got other spots... its a big forest.... and walked away to a different stand....

heres the reply I received...

Not allowed in WMA's. We don't encourage the use of permanent stands in state forests, but they are legal to have and use, but bear in mind, anything on public land becomes public to use by anyone using the forest. It is not only yours, it is anyone's to use. As for county or federal land, you will need to check with the county folks or the federal lands folks for their regulations.

this is from the CO reports..
An individual was located and identified as the leader of a large hunting party who built a 100’ bridge over a creek/wetland to access county land in addition to building permanent deer stands and cutting many trails on the public land as well. He thought it was OK since it was county land and not state land. Enforcement action is pending. Follow up on baiting complaints will continue as we are now within the “10 day window” for hunters placing bait before the season opens.

also this link to chippewa national forests

has some pictures that are interesting.

half the fun of deer camp is the traditions

We found some monster stands like those Chippewa Nat Forest stands close to our area with piles of apples and corn right under them... Basically log cabins on stilts, hinged door, roof...(no glass windows :scratch:) Now, It's St. forest where we are, but I think thats just plain wrong... gives people that hunt out of perm stands a really bad rap... most hunters with a head on their shoulders dont build monstrosities like those.... were gonna find out who built the cabins on stilts and turn em in.... one was even built on three 12" diameter fresh cut down living norway pines... which is reeaaly illegal... It made me nervous being there, what if a CO found us there looking at it?  It'd be easy to get blamed, and pretty tough to prove we didnt build them or bait the stands.... :banghead:  I was debating calling TIP, but we always see the CO's up there... I wouldnt be suprised if they already know about these guys.... :reporter;

thunderpout.. compared to that stand in the picture at chippewa my stand looks like a pallet on stilts.

I would also like to see that 100 foot bridge those guys built sounds insane

  • AKA "Outdoors Junkie"
We had a stand that was like that illegal permanent stand in the Chippewa National Forest for my grandpa back in 1996 & 1997.  It was on a single snowmobile trailer.  We would pull it out with the 4-wheeler each morning and each night.  He had a stroke in 1995 and was crippled up.  He loved deer hunting (his favorite time of year).  We made sure he was able to keep going.  I made this enclosed stand and had railings inside so he could pull himself up with his good arm & leg.  I made a spot for a porta-potty (5 gallon pail).  He had a .357 mag pistol with a scope.  We even put a sunflower propane heater in there for him.  He stayed toasty warm.  He dind't get a deer from it, but loved that he could still be out hunting with us.

He passed away the second weekend of the deer season in 1997 as we pulled his stand out to his favorite spot in the woods.  He died doing what he loved.

in wisconsin a few years back I walked up on a guy sitting in a "terret" cut into his topper. .he had a big sign that said "disabled hunter please do not disturb"  looked like he had a pretty nice set up. it would be hard to give up something that becomes such a part of who you are.
