Stupid question, but my buddy and I are going hunting for deer this year.  It's his first time and my second.  Anybody want to give a recommendation for where to go?  We want to go up north somewhere.  I didn't see any bucks last year where I went.  Good chance for success and not too crowded would be best.  Without having time to scout, we may just end up throwing a dart at the map and finding the closes wma.

I would say that any WMA or public land within a 2 - 2 1/2 hour drive from the Twin Cities will be a circus.  Anything beyond that and you should have more area to yourself.  Good luck.
Take a kid hunting and fishing... It'll be the best thing for generations to come.

Go up to Agassiz national wildlife refuge. That is where I shot my biggest wall hanger. A lot of room and a lot of deer.

Handle every stressful situation like a dog.  If
you can't eat it or hump it.

McAndrews state forest should be a good spot this year, They clear cut it in the last couple
of years. The east side of the freeway had a lot of tracks on the dort roads.
