Hi all. I inherited an old Stevens Model 70 aka 'Visible Loading Repeater'.  It's in rough shape.  I took the trigger and whatnot apart.  Here's the problem.

I can't seem to fully cock the hammer all the way back. It seems to go part-way back ie 'half-cocked' and that's it either by pumping it or by manually drawing it back.

Is this normal?

Also, can someone please confirm which side the Mainspring Plunger should go on?

Thanks for the help.

Halfway,

I emailed you a link to e-gunparts rifle forum. Gunsmiths frequent the forum and will answer your questions. I have posted there in the past and have always received help.
