This is just what I was talking about! This was a tree I was standing in when I took this photo last spring a now someone had to go a put a permanent deer stand there as if it look safe. This sht got to stop. So I call the Co and made a deal with him. I will tear down all deer stand on state land at no cost to them if they will start giving fines to the people who built them. He told me if all the old deer stand are off state land he would start give fine to the new stand that are built in that place of state land. He said they would in up with two fine. One for the damage to the state land and one for littering on state land this could be up to 700.00 fines. As me and him took this stand down he could not believe how unsafe this stand was. It had three 2x2 nail to the three tree and a pelt sitting on top and two 2x4 on the ground with the nail sticking up. I also told him I do know who build this stand. So we took a walk on some of the stand land close to this one and here are some more stands that will be down. Just a reminder if you are thinking of building a stand on state land think what it could cost you in the long run!!

Wow, the old rickety pallet supported by 2"X2"s just doesn't seem too safe to me. I can't believe someone would trust something like that to sit on.

If I go shed hunting this year wildlife, I will take my camera and show you what the "constructed" stands are like down here. It's from another culture of people, and made all by twigs/tree limbs/rope bindings/etc....And if anyone from SE MN is reading this, you will know exactly what I am talking about.

The constructed ladder is also something special too. It's amazing that someone took the time to build that ladder, but then left it there like thrown out junk.

You are correct that it is illegal to build on state management and wildlife area lands.

But again it is leagal to build permanent stands in State Forest Lands.

You are correct Dennis, with minimal damage to trees.

This is out of the DNR rule book:
Elevated Scaffolds
• The use of portable tree stands is recommended, especially those
which can be secured without driving nails into trees. Nails are
a safety hazard for woodcutters and harm the forest. Personal
property must be removed from State Forest lands. It is illegal to
destroy state property, including the cutting of trees for shooting
lanes. Littering and erecting permanent buildings are prohibited.
• Any permanent unoccupied stand or blind on public land is public
and not the property of the person who constructed the stand.

Clear as mud... You can build them in a state forest.

Yes I do know I am right and I am talking about State Lands! WMA'S
For now it maybe is legal to build permanent stands on State Forest Lands.

On state land,
• Blinds and Structures: A person may not construct or maintain
Any building, dock, fence, billboard, sign, or other structure on any
WMA, except that temporary waterfowl blinds may be erected,
But
2009 Minnesota Hunting Regulations
102
May not become private property or be used to preempt
Hunting
Rights. Any materials brought into a WMA for the construction of a
Blind must be removed
Each day at the close of hunting hours.
• Elevated Stands: A person may not construct, occupy, or use any
Elevated scaffold or other elevated device for the purpose of hunting,
Watching, or killing wild animals, except that portable stands may be
Used if they are removed each day at the close of hunting hours and
Do no permanent damage.

But these are the stand I do not like they are garbage and are unsafe ones!!!

I have a feeling this has been talked about before??? :rotflmao:

Wildlife, your pictures show an honest to goodness image of littering and unsafe garbage left out in the woods to ruin what is supposed to be pristine. People are ruining the woods by leaving this crap out in the woods, and that I definately agree with you on.

I don't think Dennis is disagreeing with you as much as he is just trying to point out that it is still legal to contruct safe permanents in the woods, and will continue to do so as long as it is legal.

Now lets have a cold Budweiser! :drinking:

I assumed you were talking about state forest land, WMA's ect have a lot more restrictions than a state forest.

Exactly.  Thanks 22Lex.
Yes, the pictures posted show broken down old eye sore’s of stands.  I would not attempt to get in one of them.  I would not object to your tearing those down.  I would not object to you tearing down good stands on State management land or WMA (they are illegal).

If I witnessed you tearing down a good stand that is on State Forest Land and perfectly legal, I would express my objection (especially if it was the one my grandma uses).

As I stated in the thread that had this similar topic a couple weeks ago, we use both portable and permanent stands on State Forest land in northern MN.  It is perfectly legal to use permanent stands there.  I used the example of my 75+ year old grandma (who still hunts with us) and does not like to use a portable.  We built her a permanent stand, and check it and repair it each year, so that it is safe for her.  If she was forced to use a permanent or hunt from the ground, she would retire.  I would rather have her part of our hunting party for as long as she wants and is able to be out there.

This is out of the DNR rule book:
Elevated Scaffolds
• The use of portable tree stands is recommended (NOT REQUIRED), especially those which can be secured without driving nails into trees (AGAIN, NOT REQUIRED). Nails are a safety hazard for woodcutters and harm the forest. Personal
property must be removed from State Forest lands. It is illegal to destroy state property, including the cutting of trees for shooting lanes. Littering and erecting permanent buildings (NOT STANDS) are prohibited.
• Any permanent unoccupied stand or blind on public land is public and not the property of the person who constructed the stand (WHY WOULD THEY WRITE THIS IF THEY WERE ILLEGAL?).

Everyone has the right to their opinion.  I can live with that we do not see eye to eye  on this subject.  I know what is legal where I hunt.  I have talked with the local DNR in that area.  They have been out to see our permanent stands.  Nails are permited in our stands.  They do not call the lumber & the few nails littering.  The stands are permanent and are left out for anyone to use.  We take out any shell casing, wrappers, bottles or anything like that out of the woods with us.

I am tired of this topic.
