Anybody been out looking yet?  I plan on getting out tomorrow or Sunday when it finally warms up.

I am going tommorow.  Several people have been finding them already in the Duluth area, so they should be dropping around here to with the deep snow.

I have usually found my first shed antlers in mid to late Jan, and frequently they have already been chewed up heavy.

Saw a shed buck about a week ago and have friends and know people that have found some already. Very few but its happened. Two of the bucks were known to have had an injury.

I went out with a friend on a shed hunt today and he got his 1st of the season.  :dancinred: I was skunked, but saw an incredible number of deer, so should be a great spot later on.  The shed was under the crusted snow, so would have dropped in late December, before the wet snow storm we had.  Should have been over 70 inches, but broke off the G3 at the main beam.

I went out a 2nd time this year and finally had some success. I found an antler that sat a year with heavy chewing, and a long spike off a yearling. Both were recessed in the snow so I had to walk right past to find them.  Luckily a squirrel dug the old one out for a little bone nourishment or it would have been under the snow pack.  Good Luck out there with all this snow cover.  On a positive note there were plenty of blood spots along trail edges indicating more have shed than I found. We have seen about half off already in SE MN where I have been hunting(at least the bucks we've seen). Wish I could find them!

Went out today and found a couple more, may be a set, but just different enough on the pedicals/texture to make me think maybe not. Still not finding the big ones.

Anybody been out lately?  I am headed out the door to some prime land in WI for the next couple days. I will report when I get back.

We spent a lot of time searching the last couple days on a trip up to Duluth, Ely, and surrounding areas.  We tried following moose tracks to find the bedding areas but found that there was about 3 feet of powder snow that we could not stay on top of with snow shoes.  We followed for 7/10 of a mile and found nothing.  Super exhausting.  Took a couple photos with the cell phone. Highlight of the trip was the snow sculptures they are making up in Ely for the winter festival.  Amazing detail.  A few pics for you.

Got out for a few hours yesterday and came up with this nice find.  It was the match to the one my friend found back on Jan 16th.  Scored just over 90 inches for this half of it!

And a pic of them together.

Amazing pictures!  I've been waiting for the bucks by our house to drop their antlers - no such luck yet.

MNO, I very rarely find any on our place.  In the 6 years of hunting them, I have found maybe 5 of my 75+ antlers on our land.  I haven't even checked it yet this year.  I usually scour the country for standing  corn and ask to look.  About 50% give me permission in MN, WI.  I also spend about half my time shed hunting in Iowa on public land.  That is where my best antlers come from.  Around 60 in Iowa in the last 5 years, maybe 10 in WI, and 5 in MN.  I rarely can find someone to give me permission to shed hunt private ground in Iowa for some reason.  I have never found an antler in WI or MN that scored over 60 inches, but have picked up around a dozen in Iowa that eclipse the 60 inch mark, including two nice match sets.

My collection of Iowa antlers from my 1st 4 years shed hunting. I have gotten my two biggest antlers and about 10 more total to add to this since.

I went another couple hours today looking for new spots. Found a couple of promising locations, but both had been checked recently and only came up with one very small 3pt.

We took a couple pics with a real camera of the matched big set and thought I would include one.

A friend of mine found a nice set in the Metro on Tuesday. We were up there for a conferance and he went out for a couple hours in a park area before heading back to SE MN.  Makes #8&9 for him.

I went out for a couple hours this afternoon and found 3 antlers.  A lot easier to spot with the heavy melt off we've had here in southern MN and NE Iowa in the last week. Two fresh and one that laid out a year.

All I found so far this year.

They were about 10ft. I suppose after dropping the one the off balance from the other one caused it to possibly shake off??
