My 2011 New Years resolution is to find just one shed.  I have only found one by accident while hunting.  I want to actually go looking for some and get one this season.  Since I did not get to hunt nearly as much as I would have liked I am planning on going at least once a weekend until spring fishing starts.  Wish me luck.

Good luck!! Find out where they are eating and bedding! I would start mid to late February.

Thanks for the tips!  I am probably going to start right after the first of the year for an excuse to get some excercise and to hopefully utilize being out there in the early shed season to find where the deer are living before the bones start to fall off!

Maybe someone shot the other one off.

He shed both sides already!

I am no expert... but how can you tell if a buck has shed both its antlers, wont it just look like a big ole Doe?
I imagine there may be some sign of missing antlers on their head.... Im not sure though.

I am also no expert, but I would imagine for a few days you would be able to see an opening in the hide where the antler once was.  after a little bit I am guessing that gets covered with hair and skin again.  Once that happens you would only definitely be able to tell if you were in close proximity of the south end of a north bound buck!  If you can catch my drift!! ;D

I have not had much luck shed hunting.  Either I don't know where to look or there are't any where I am looking.  I try to get out a couple times each year but I have only found one small 6 point.
I watched the video of shed hunting in SD.  It looked more like an Easter egg hunt.  :rotflmao:
Next time the driver should drive by the sheds at 30 mph, stop 1/2 mile away and then let the race begin.

you could always go out west... here's a picture of the elk sheds we found in wyoming this year.. we didn't have enough room on the mules to pack em all out but after a while you quit picking em up since they were everywhere.. I did manage to get a few back. the one in the middle is almost 48 inches from end to tip.

Looks like people have been seeing the antlers start to fall off.  I think I am going to take a walk tomorrow on some public land next to the private land I hunt on.  Have to make the drive to pull stands off the private land and do one last x-mas gathering so I might as well take an abreviated shed hunting walk!  Might try to get out Sunday also.
