What do most shoot with?  Or should I say "recommended"?

It kind of depends on how a course is set up.... most of the time you should be able to get by using one choke on a league clays course, meaning most of the stations will have pretty similar distances to the targets.  Usually a skeet or improved is good for alot of the Wild Marsh stations because they have alot of closer, quicker targets.... the first two rounds we just shot were a little more distant and/or quickly moving out targets than their typical targets.... Chris likes to test shooters in different ways lately... which is great!  Some people used to complain that too many of their targets were of the close/quick type... over the years he has gotten really good at switching things up.  Just when you think you are getting good at certain targets... he changes things up on you... Thats what makes things interesting! ;)  I dont like changing tubes every other dang station to try to get that perfect match between target and tube, but sometimes it may just be that little edge that may help you.  Good to have at least two tubes with you... maybe a skeet or improved and a modified.  If I had to pick just one tube though, I bought a light-modified tube that is good for most any shot except like a long duck tower type shot, or maybe the really close quick shots.  But like a guy told me once, if you whack the center of the target, it dont matter what tube you have in.  But, the right tube in will usually get you a few more X's on the score sheet, then its worth it.

I can't get out untill sunday.. we get our trees this friday and want to get em in saturday.

as far as chokes go.. if you have an auto/pump.. go with improved cylinder.. with an o/u .. I like improved cylinder/skeet.. or on tourney grade targets I'll go with IC/light mod. but to be honest I've smoked some long targets with skeet .. when your on.. your on

Cody.... Did Mitch want to shoot with us this year?  Pat #2's other friend is just gonna shoot with us occasionaly to see what its all about... so we have a total of seven guys: Me, Pat #1 & #2, Ken, Red, Beeker & Cody.... we have room for one more, Red, did you say you may know of someone that may want to shoot?  If you count me out, it looks like we have some talent... may do some damage this year! ;) :happy1:

Red,  aint no such thing as a weak link on a clays squad.... aint no I in team! ;) After a year or two (or less) you'll be kicken our butts!  Its all about having fun... then the learning and improving part are the rewards.... just looked at my league score averages over the 9-10 years Ive shot at Wild Marsh, even though you may get lucky & win a trophy now and then, the best is seeing your average going up every year.  Even if its just a single % point it means you did better and you are learning and getting somthing out of it.  Thats pretty cool!  Anything else you get out of leagues is just a bonus... but getting a gun at the year end raffle would by ok I guess... :whistling:

My guy is out.  Too pricey for him he claims so we might be running with 7.  Anyone hear from Cody about Saturday?  I just don't want to go by myself and try to find someone to pull for me.

I'll lean on my brother this weekend and see if he's up for it on sunday.. I'll be planting trees with him on saturday so I'll talk about it all day and see if I can convince him of his need to shoot in another league

We did make it out and it started as a beautiful day and then the wind got outta control.

I shot a 50 of 100 and Cody was higher, I want to say mid 60's to low 70's.  I set out to shoot 50% and I pulled it off on the last station.  We shot Blue and Green.  The 1st station in Blue (the crossing A & B on report in the cut down pines) embarrassed me to death.  We did keep pace with the rest of the crew on certain stations and took a dive on a few others.

Cody and I are talking about going out on Saturday, May 15, fishing opener for rounds 3 & 4.  He's fishing local and I don't go opener any more.

Anyone else around, join in.  Thunder, I see one of the Pat's leaves near me or it's Mitch.  Maybe we can all join up for the 3 & 4 or 5 & 6 for sure.

i did ok for the first time out, and i thought "red" did really well for his first time out. they had some tough stations out there i was really suprised. i was also really suprised on how much timber they have been whacking down. they also had some really far targets that would been nice to have my improved choke in for instead of skeet. also droped a few that is should of had. i got all 7 for the bonus station, also got sucked in on another station that made me go for the crossing shot so i dropped 1 target on that station. not a bad time though minus the wind

I got my 2 rounds in today.. I was thinking it was only one.. good thing I always have extra... I had 1 left to spare when it was all said and done.. good thing those true pairs on the green course crossed nicely for me so I could double up on 2 of em. I put up a pair of 39's... but I've been shooting every week for over a month now. I thought I was in big trouble on the new blue course.. goose egged the first station but the rest of those targets worked to my favor.

50% out on your first time is good. a buddy of mine has been tossing up 15's out of 50.

isnt that first station on the blue course horrible? i hit the very last one, but i guessed on the lead. that was the very first one we started on. those crossing ones sucked me in

in my last post I meant having enough shells.

I have no idea why I sucked it up on that station.. if I had extra shells I think I would have taken a few extra there just to try different things, to see what the heck would work. and the 5th station with the true pair with the right to left low.. and the high away.. that high one sucked.

And the best part is, they change it up and keep you guessing.

I shot well (well enough to keep me sane for 2 weeks) and had some good pointers from Cody so we'll see what happens next.

Yeah, that first station on the blue course was a great opening station eh? :whistling:  I think the targets were farther out than you thought, faster than ya thought, and were dropping more than ya thought.... the ole' triple whammy! :doah:  Yeah Cody, it was windy as hell when we went out also... rather have rain than wind I think.... well good goin guys, I found out how much rust I had to shake off from the long winter... yep, we'll have to try to shoot as a group here the next time out, yeah Red....I dont do the opener any more either, so I should be open for that... let me know who all wants to get out then....

I'll run that by Pat & see if its clear for him... Beeker... totally agree on that first blue station, I'd like to sit at that station with two boxes of shells shooting those fast, long crossers till I see them with my eyes closed!  Pat and I said the same thing after smashing our heads on the gun rack a few times  :banghead:after looking like we'd never shot a shotgun before... ;)

I can honestly say I closed my eyes on the very last bird @ that station... and I think that was the closest I came to breaking anyone of the 6 targets.

If we can get 1/2 the team there on the 15th, we should even fire up a grill and break out a cooler...

not a bad idea to grill, and have a few. i wont be hitting the lake until later on in the day again anyways so why not.

theres more than just that one station thats been bugging me, theres a few i should ran away with and dropped the last one cause i got lazy or sucked into a try at crossing targets. the really fast far ones as well that i blanked on, i dont think i goose egged completly on any of them, but i want a mid 70's low 80's with the next outing

Goose eggs are that bad.... Lokk at the bright side, you can't get any worse @ that station.... I hope.

Yeah Red... you can do worse at that station... :whistling:  Though I think I got a bird or two there, the last two shots I hit nothing but wood on the first shot.... remember that woodpile up close and to the right of the stand? :rotflmao: :doah: that hurts when you dont even let yourself have a chance at hittling a target! :banghead:

i need to buy a new imporved choke and i think ill pick a few of those farther shots up a little, and not take it easy at the last 2 targets as im about to run a station, so i left quite a few out there last weekend but next weekend will be different

:rotflmao:  Im still telling myself that after shooting there for ten years or so.... thats what keeps ya goin.... kinda like the guitarist looking for the "lost chord"..... ;)  Beeker, I purposely removed my middle bead... it bugged me... You may like it better without it....

cody what are you shooting?  IC is good so is light mod if you have 1 barrel.

pout, i've toyed with that idea aswell.. but i've been too big of a chicken to mess with the process.
