I was thinking of this because of the snow we just received. I always bring a couple of things with me when I am ice fishing alone.
1) 5ft 4x4
2) a come along

A person can get stuck pretty easy with fluffy snow and even a light hard pack.  If you are by yourself this can be a problem.
Four wheel drive does'nt help if your tires get down to the ice and are in those little cup shaped slots.  Anyone that has had this happen knows what I mean.

SOLUTIONS:  Drill a hole ahead of your truck, make the hole as deep as you can without punching through. stick the 4x4 in the hole and use the come along to pull yourself out of the little ice trough so you can get traction again.  (electric winch is easier if you have one)If it is really cold you can punch another hole and dump the ice chips and water in front of your tires for traction.  Good luck and be prepared.
