Pediatricians want  to redesign the hot dog--

(Feb. 22) -- Many regard the hot dog as a ballpark mainstay, a perfect partner to the hamburger or, for a hot-dog eating champ, a little snack. But according to a new policy statement from the American Academy of Pediatrics, the hot dog is a hazard for kids, associated with more choking deaths among children than any other food.

The article goes on to say warning labels need to be on the packaging as well.

I expect they will recomend the kids wearing a helmet while eating their safety     dog.  Nothing is sacred from the safety police. :banghead:

NOOOOO, My $1 Dome-Dog on Wednesdays at Target Field (if that is the name they will have) will just not taste the same now.    :police:
NOTE TO KIDS - CHEW YOUR FOOD!  -- Problem solved!  :bonk:
You choke on foods that are too big to fit down your throat, hence the TEETH in your mouth.  And if they kid has no teeth, then why are you feeding them solid food!  :banghead:

So what's the deal? just another warning label. I have seen first hand a child choking from a weiner, he was lucky there was an adult close by to help him out. Trouble with a hot dog is when a little kids take a bite it is just the right size to slide down. Another bad finger food is grapes with kids as that to is just the right size to go down with out chewing. Yup, the answer is to chew your food but kids just like adults sometimes are to busy getting ready to talk or are in a hurry. Several members of my family run day cares and they all cut up hotdogs and then slice them when the kids are young.

I agree- grapes and dogs should be halved or quartered for small children.  The safety police want the labels as well as changing the hot dogs shape.  (pre quartered) .  I think it is silly, overkill, and a waste of time and money.  Parents should be made responsible for their children.  If this is ok then you need to have the warnings in 15 different languages.  It is a hot dog.

A warning on how to eat a hotdog?  How about a warning telling you the different  kinds of  :censored: that goes into one.  Dumb.

I think you would be hard pressed to find something that is sold that does not have a warning on it these days.  :doah:

I think anything could be a choking hazard, common sense is the easiest way to not choke (granted, sometimes its easier said than done)
I sometimes find myself swallowing morcels of food that are too big -- when I eat too fast.  But thats not the foods fault, its mine.  If I want to swallow an entire potato chip and get it lodged in my throat, thats my fault cause im an idiot, not the potato chip manufactures.  THEY ARE MEANT TO BE CHEWED!

Depends.  A warning on the hot dog for kids and a choking hazard and a separate warning on the buns for people like me who the carbs go right to my hips.... and then I choke it all down with beer and get that wonderful bloated, happy feeling.
