I will be at Vermilion Mid june on a golf trip.  Most of the guys like the casino being close.  We play 36/day but usually have one afternoon off.  We will be staying at the daisy bay hideaway.  I hope to get a little fishing in.  Can someone tell me where this is on the lake so I can start doing a little research.  Is it east-west-north-south side of the lake?  Is there decent areas for walleyes in that area when time is limited.  I will check out the lake maps but I know that if I rent a boat I want to make the best use of it.  Thanks for any advise.

Used to stay at the Daisy Bay Resort there years ago.... Daisy Bay is a large bay on the west/central part of the lake... I have always liked fishing the north-central and NW part of the lake, but you are pretty close to those areas.... Its always been my favorite lake to fish in MN, except for some lakes in the BWCA... fished it for years, and still have barely tapped into some good areas.... start off by looking for some reef/rockpile structure of points & Islands... youre going there at a good time of the year.... have fun & good luck! :happy1:

Daisey Bay is on the east end of the lake.  June Walleyes will be closer to the shorline areas than on mid lake humps or rockpiles.  Large numbers of fish should be on the flats near Fortune bay casino out in Big bay.

Boat rental is expensive on the Big V.  You may be much better off hiring a guide for a half day.

I think a boat will cost you about $150.00 a day, plus the gas. You can get a guide for a half day for just a bit more and you won't have to search for the Walleyes for hours to get your fish.  they will also provide you with bait and all the necessary equipment.

Give me a call if you're interested in catching fish. ;)

Thanks for the tips.  I will keep you in mind.  One of our guys on the trip owns a boat dealership so we are trying to talk him into hauling a demo up.  Our resort has changed now to big bay.  We have a couple of guys that would rather sit inside and psss their money away at the casino.  We moved closer so they don't get lost.

Ace... not to argue on this, but if you're in Big Bay, Daisy bay is to the Northwest, correct?  So isnt Daisy Bay just south of Black Duck point and Moccasin point and the bay itself is on the west side of that part of the lake? (To leave Daisy Bay you go east....) Yeah, Big bay is on the south east most part of the lake, but Daisy bay is NW from that isnt it? & I didnt mean/say mid lake rock piles...that structure is too deep that early, :doah: I said rockpiles off the points and islands, anotherwards the more shallow structure, especially near the central part of the lake, the narrows and such. Not the big water structure.... that stuff is for later in the season.... If you really want to catch fish on Vermilion, and you have never fished that lake, it would be a good idea to look into a guide like Ace said, especially if you have less than a day... its a huge lake, very overwelming to someone that hasnt fished it before, and its like they say, 90% of the fish are in 10% of the water... or somthing like that

No matter how you slice it, the fact is that Daisy bay is on the east end of the lake. Black duck and Fraser bay are in the central basin and everything west of the Oak narrows is the west end, simple as that.

The east end fishes differently than the west end, especially for Walleyes.  Daisy bay is much like what you'll find in Big bay. They are seperated by Birch point otherwise it's the same basin, which is east.

If you guys are staying on Big bay you'll want to start on the flats north of Cherry island.  It is just a short boat ride from Fortune bay and there should be lots of Walleyes there when your here in June. :fishing2:

But hey, what do I know, I'm just a fishing guide.

I have good news.  We will be staying close to the Casino in Big Bay.  We will have 2 boats.  We usually play 36 holes per day so The fishing will be in the evening.  I am going to check out  the lake maps to get a rough idea where we will be staying.  I have not heard the boat size yet but I expect it to be loaded.  I will be watching for your reports throughout the summer.  Thanks for the input guys.
