ok so i went up into a area i dont usually go in yesterday.(major bedding area ontop a hill) and the fence line is right there and when i get up there their was a a ladder stand not 3 yards off the fence line facing in. then about 60 yards down the fence line it was 10 yards off the line but still facing in. what should we do? Im pretty sure if there given a chance they will or have been shooting across the fence line. we have been dealing with it on the other side of the property and its starting to get a little old quite frankly. what do i do?

Build a junk stand right by it on your land.

well it happens on all parts of the property line, we call them vultures. hard to practice QDM when you have idiots like that around and blast everything, its not that i judge anyone for shooting whatever they see, but these guys do it then they brag about how many they shot. just about everyone they shot last year came across(now i think we know why so many come across, maybe because they shooting them across the fence) we try to shy away from building perminant(sp) stands.

All you can do is remind them your property is private. As long as they are not shooting on your property they have just as much right as you to hunt the edge of theirs. As far as throwing soap why would you want to stoop to a level like that?

Have this same problem. Our neighbor put a stant up over my food plot. facing it. I planted pines and spruce there and this yr I'm planting hybrid poplar there. He got the hint after he seen the pines go up and the posted sign so he moved it but I'm still planting the hybrids there. Good luck.
Let the small bucks walk. Don't assume the neighbors will shoot them if you don't. If you shoot him what chance does that buck have to grow......ZERO!

Cody, this seems to be a common problem with most land owners. I have discussed this with neighbors everytime a new stand pops up near the property line.  I usually tell them that I intend to keep my stands 100 yards off the property line and if they do the same, we will be at least 200 yards apart.  I do have a couple my stands closer to the line but these are in places where the neighbor doesn't have access such as a large wet swamp.  Over time most have relocated stands but one in particular has been an issue. At first the stand (large 6X8 enclosed) was on my land. Now he moved it on to his land (maybe 10 feet from the line).  To make it worse, it's located on the corner of his land and we own the land on two sides (in other words he can legally shoot on 1/4 of the area around him)
You didn't mention if you speak with this neighbor.  Is that an option?

we have spoken with the guy about the stand in the second picture last year, but he pretty much blew us off and said he didnt care. now that second one is up and its even closer. its the one in the first picture and its facing right at the no hunting or tresspassing sign and u can see the barb wire. we put up blaze orange signs so they stick out. with the way the one stand is in picture number one how should we think he not shooting across? the soap thing is just a joke i am not going to risk my best stand location over this

Sounds like a predicament that has no viable option.  I certainly wouldn't (as you have stated) cause more issues.  You have done the proper postings, talked with the land owner, etc.  I would go with the junk stand or plant trees and block off as much sight as possible.  The camera is also a good idea.

I cannot stand people like that.

We are having the same kind of thing going on. Last year we started to notice atv tracks that weren't ours way back on a 200acre parcel of ours. Then some trails started showing up in a small clump(8-10acres) of woods joining our neighbors property. His deer stand sits right in the corner of his land(20acres). He has trails cut in every direction with a tractor and bushhog. RIGHT PAST OUR NO TRESSPASSING SIGNS! Wow. This last summer he cut 2 trails from his trails through our woods and out into a hayfield. Like we wouldn't notice that. He then oushed with his tractor some big rocks and an old roundbale, that was put on one of his old trails by my grandpa to stop him, out into our hayfield. Again all right past posted signs. Warden was notified and said there was nothing we could do unless we see him out there. Then I see his tracks over a 1/4 mile into ours on a food plot I was planting. Then right before they were prime he ran them down with his atv. How nice is that. This time the local warden went over and talked to him. Said he saw the tractor and bushhog in the yard but still couldn't do anything. Next was during rifle season. I hunted a box stand over a cut corn field tue and wed. nights. Sometime between wed night and sat am. 7 rifle shots went right through the middle of our stand!..beyond that they were going right towards town!  How sick is that!? He is the only neighbor we have trouble with and so far he has eluded our trail cams. Sooner or later he won't...Sorry for the rant. This gets me real po'd every time I see something like this.

We have a similar problem as well, however the guy is hunting the fenceline where we dont hunt, on the opposite side of  the land.  We can see him, but its not a big deal since he is just tryng to not let the deer leave his property.  Its kinda what we all do, we have stands at exit points of our woods just to make sure, if a nice deer comes through, it doesnt make it to our neighbors  :happy1:
To get to my point, I cant stand when people put stands up, especially in the woods, but its their property, so they can do as they please.  Last year we spotted a very heavy trail that runs right along our fenceline and we talked about putting a stand up there, right on it, but we decided against it 1 - because we see it as rude and 2 - if we do get a deer along that trail, it will most likely go into the neighbors land and cause more problems.
Sucks to hear about that guy, especially if your bow stand is near it, but as other have said, there is not much you can do, unless they come into your land, you cannot do anything.  I would say put up a trail cam facing their land so you can see if they come in.  Then you will have a case.  GOOD LUCK CODY!

It's amazing what people get away with. We couldn't press charges on some tresspassers because we didn't have one corner of our property posted. They parked under a posted sign and we took picture of it. The one corner of our property that wasn't posted was because it buts up to our cousins land and there's no way to get to that side of the land without first walking by 200 other posted signs. MNnate I hope you guys get that SOB!

its just amazing how people dont respect other peoples wishes. on one property by menagha thats on my moms side of the family we have 189 acres there and have no problems with the neighbors what so ever, all are very respectful and if they cripple a deer most of our party help them look for it. ive even helped drag the deer out for them, not a big deal. but once it comes to the metro everyone so rude, about it. but to have someone put shots threw your deer stand is just sick, how were they to know that you werent in there? sometimes i nap in our larger stands and you cant see me from the ground, what if someone in mnnates hunting party was doing something similar. thats pretty serious

There is a guy over by spicer that had a neighbor put a stand right next to his property. So he got out his post hole digger and put up 2 poles and strung one of those big blue tarps across them. Imagine what the guy thought when he came out to hunt? :rotflmao:

That is great! :rotflmao:  Im guessing it ticked off the owner of the stand, but it may have started a good Hatfield-Mcoy feud... but sometimes the situation calls for desperate measures! ;)  Im thinking maybe a few BIG poles... as in telephone poles with some HD truck tarps....Or maybe a large billboard, Eh?   Im guessing if you use tarps, you wouldnt be breaking any height of fence ordinance/codes... ;D

it would be nice to just go fill the legs of those stands with salt and watch em decay over the summer.. but it's a tough spot to be in, especially when your not there all the time, since if you start a war your gonna get your stands messed with.. we've had "shadows" before where they put up a stand and they end up sitting staring at ya opener morning. we tend to just wait em out and most of the time they leave. and trail cams can get stolen. dnr is worthless in these situations. you need to be careful with readios and soap as there is a harrassment law.

there is no easy fix for something like this.. personally I think I would put a stand up and shadow the fella a few times... fix up the fence right there so there is no quick drag back onto their land. otherwise your gonna spend way too much time obsessin over this douche and not concentrating on your own hunt.

just go buy some of that skunk concentrate and dump it on the seat. Then every time he sits there he will think what the heck is that smell ;D I have a neighbor that constructed 2 box stands less than 10 feet from my property line. I think the law is 10 feet. They were there before I bought the land. If he ever pisses me off, I might bring it up to the warden.

Here's a different take on this;

I am a non-landowner who gets permission from numerous small parcels. I find a nice funnel/pass-through/staging area that happens to be near one of the bordering properties that is evidently posted everywhere. I set up a portable stand that faces and is quite near the fenceline, but is actually set up for me to shoot as a right-handed shooter so I am actually shooting off to my left (similar to the picture).

I actually had a scenario like this where a neighboring landowner who owned property next to the permission land I was on took a look at my stand and thought the worst. He must have waited for me to get into my bow stand early one evening then came out cussing and spitting like I was poaching, or shooting deer over the fence. Now granted I didn't know this guy, and was actually kind of intimidated at his demeanor but nonetheless I got down and talked to him. I explained what I was doing and showed him the lanes I had cut out nowhere near his property line, and tried to burn my intent of ethical hunting in his head. He calmed down right away, and then we started swapping "who we knew" stories. After about a twenty minute session of small talk and deer we had seen around the area, he asked what gun season I was hunting and I told him I wouldn't be gun hunting that year in that area except maybe muzzy season. I told him that he was more than welcome to sit in my stand that year if he got permission from his neighbor, and that if he ever needed any help dragging/cutting/etc...of the deer to give me a call.

I know this scenario is probably nothing like yours is Cody, especially if these stands are set up during gun season, but it brings a different perspective especially one from a non-landowner who is at the mercy of permission spots.

I was actually going to say the same thing.  I like to shoot to the left side of my stand also.  Plus if the deer are coming from behind me I can move behind the tree without the deer seeing me.

Get some string and tie balloons every foot or so and run it down the fence line.  When the wind blows, those balloons bounce around discourage the deer from crossing at that point (by their stand).  Works like a charm.
