I think that it is safe to say, that the ice is out. It did not take long for the wind to take it out. This is the earliest I have ever seen the ice go out on Mille Lacs. It started to move around on Monday, and by Saturday afternoon it had pushed eastward and we never saw it again. I thought we might get some of it back yesterday afternoon when the wind switched and came out of the Northwest at 15 to 25 mph. The ice never did show up and this morning there was a light wind and not any ice in sight. This could work against us for the opener. With the ice going out so soon, the walleyes will have plenty of time to spawn and recover before the May 15th opener. The fish could be well out of the post spawn mode and well on their way to deeper water and scattered about. We will see what appends from now until May 15th. It is still only the first of April, and all bets are off when it comes to Mother Nature on this lake. We could have temps drop off dramatically between now and then and have snow and ice back for the month of May. If it isn’t one thing it is another but, the good news is, I am healing well and can’t wait to go to the doc on Tuesday and get out of this dam cast. It has been a long 7 weeks and I have run out of things to do in the house and I am definitely ready to get out in the yard and get something done, anything! That will have to wait for another 3 to 4 weeks because I will go from a hard cast, into a hard boot and hopefully, maybe, get some weight on the foot. I am so ready to get on with the rest of the process of complete recovery. Hopefully by the 15th of May I will be, at least on my feet without the aid of the crutches. My hands are so sore from being on them with the crutches, I have two huge calluses on both hands that I have to keep cut down or they slit open and bleed, which has been a pure joy to deal with... I have had lots and lots of fun, adapting to life on crutches over the past 7 weeks. But, patty has promised me, that I will be so happy with the results, that I will be skipping around the resort in know time. I hope she is right. She has been so great and taking care of all my needs as she always has, I love her so much! That is about it for now, wish me luck on Tuesday and I will be updating from time to time as we build up to our 21st open water season at Rocky Reef Resort. Patty and I were talking about where we started, so many years ago. All of the different things that we have seen and done over the years, and how much of ourselves we have put into this business, that no matter what, it is all about the journey and that life is good!

I do still have 2 cabins open for this opener; give me a call if you need one. 320 532 3431

Have a Happy Easter

There were broken ice sheets on the NE side at Agate Bay resort this past Sunday afternoon.
I didn't get down by the water but what I saw from the fish house was open water with white ice chunks in long chains floating around.

Take my word for it, the ice is gone. The wind has switch from all directions and there is not even an ice cube floating around down on the s.w. side.
