I talked to a few guys who have bought 4 stroke augers and love them.  They said it is nice to cut holes in the fish house without having the house fill with two stroke exhaust.  The one downside they have told me is the weight of the auger.  They are heavier when compared to two stroke augers.

I've heard that 4 strokes are a little tougher to start when the REALLY cold weather hits.. but thats just hear say.  I've never seen it myself.

BFG

I now am the proud owner of an electric auger for my favorite price ;D ;D FREE. and it's brand new. Well it's not totally free, he just wants me to take him out fishing some this winter. To LOW, URL and maybe winnie.

Sorry, back to the subject. I can see a four stroke being heavier. It wouldn't bother me if I'm driving to the fishin hole. If it's a matter of runnin and gunnin just trying to find fish I like to go as light as possible.

After owning 2 Jiffy augers, which have performed great for me, I'm now in the search for an electric auger.  A buddy of mine has one, and I was very impressed with how it was able to drill faster than my Jiffy (model 30) and I really like how quiet it was, as well as the fact there is no smoke/smell to deal with!  (Although the smell of an auger brings back fond memories of ice fishing as a child with my dad and grandfather.

I'm considering the Strikemaster Electra Lazer 12000DP.
*Griz if you can find me the same type of deal let me know!
If I were to buy a new gas auger, I'd probably go with 2 stroke, until they lighten it and fix the "bugs"-oil leaking out when setting it down on the wrong side.

I believe the 4-stroke by strikemaster is extremely light not heavy. But I don't trust the plastic rings.

;D  when it comes to ice fishing theres only two thing that matter!  1. a good shelter 2. a good auger that will probably be to heavy but one that you can depend on ( like jiffy mod. 30) when the ice is to thick to chisle 25 holes by hand. theres nothing that will reack an outing faster then inept equipment that just dont cut it! fishing time is short with a 5 lb. spud bar in your cold hands and sweaty back!

Worked 14 years as a small engine machanic for a Jonsred, Husky, Stihl and Simplicity dealership.

I can tell ya what I would buy...2 stroke and only 2 stroke!

If it's zero to -20 most 4 strokes small engines will not start period!

I'm not much on having to have a truck follow me around the lake to run a electric either. I like to be mobile, travel light.

Also, 2 strokes are cheaper to buy and cheaper to repair or rebuild too

Use good Syn. 2 stroke oil like Amsoil or something like with fresh Prem. non-ethonal fuel and she will treat ya right

I have a two stroke currently, but when it goes out I'm buying an electric.  If you fish with an wheeler this is the way to go.  Hook the battery cables up and leave them in your trunk, when you get to your spot hook up and drill away.  Your holes are drilled before most guys can get their auger fired up.  But you are tethered to your 4-wheeler.  Each type of auger has it's advantages/disadvantages, but I have used the strikemaster electric and loved it.  Just my 2 cents.

I have an electric auger and it has an onboard battery... i do just fine thank you very much.  Oh and it's just as light as a gas auger.

mayfly, are the names of the contest entrants going to be harrassed by emails and phone calls after the ice show, like I was last year?
it seems the most of the "sign up here for a chance to win" contests were gimmicks to sell other products via the names and personal info given on the entry form >:(
I was really getting sick of the calls.

The only harassment that you will get from us is a paper in your mailbox every week!! ;D

The drawing is for people who sign up for a subscription. We are not trying to create lists for any other purpose, that is not what we do.

Who harassed you last year? Did you sign up for a free alarm system??
