I hit Leech last Mon. looking for crappies and to see if the boat is ready to go for the Gov's opener on Kab. this year. I launched at the City Park, word of caution the lake is down so if you have a bunk trailer it will be tuff this year without some rain.

I was sight fishing alot of areas shallow found some crappies but it was too cold I found 50 degrees and up by the Hardwoods it was 56. I did find some good Duck hunting areas for fall on Leech.  while trolling the shore slow.

Perch have been going good in the Narrows by Oak Pt. as I drove up to Hardwoods three boats were fishing this area. Portage Bay also is putting out some nice perch up by federal dam.

Also Boy bay and Sucker bay should be heating up for an early crappie bite Ill be looking up in Boy Bay this week and other areas it will only get better with warmer water.

Talked to Kent Hrbek who was one of the boat's fishing the Narrows when I loaded to leave he came over to chat, they did ok on perch 10 to 12inch perch

Looks good for a very good opener on Leech fishing jigs and minnows or spinners and minnows and I think a Lindy rig and a Leech will be hot this year on Leech lake early. After Dark trolling will also put some nice fish in the boat. Lots of options for fish never hurts to try a bobber rig on some of the rocks on leech, were do I start and what rig.

Good Luck, should be a good fishing opener on Leech.

I've never in my life put a line in Leech lake and i've been everywhere in the state. Grew up fishing, been fishing my whole life and never been to the lake. Maybe some year I will change that, maybe this year! Thanks for the report!

Welcome to the site Bob.  I have duck hunted leech on opener  for the last 10 years.  There is nothing better on those short fall days.  Duck hunt in the morning-nap-fish at sunset.  The water levels can change a lot during the week depending on the dam.  We are looking forward to your reports. :happy1:

MNO-time to try it!!

I love how dark that crappie is!

Here are a couple of my favorite crappie pictures just because it was such a great day. The crappies had moved in thick and we caught as many as we wanted. It was the first year on Mille Lacs that the size was diminished though so that was unfortunate.... It wasn't that easy to get them 12 or over but we managed. Years before that they were huge! I blame the isle bay explosion for the downfall... who knows. A little off topic here.
