Last week, the United States District Court in Minnesota issued an opinion in a lawsuit brought in September 2007 by five Minnesota hunters against ALS Enterprises, the manufacturer of Scent-Lok products, and some of its retail partners.  The court ruled in ALS’s favor on some issues, and against ALS on others.  On a narrow legal issue, the court determined that the word “eliminate” in some of Scent-Lok’s advertisements could only mean eliminate 100% of odor, and therefore some of these advertisements were false.

ALS respectfully disagrees with the court's ruling that "odor eliminate" can only mean 100% elimination.  There are many products on the market advertised as "eliminating" some condition and people understand that they do not eliminate the condition 100%.  A search of the term “eliminate odor” produced over 1.9 million references to the term. A search of “odor eliminator” produced 281,000 results.

Of note, the court’s ruling does not relate to the efficacy of Scent-Lok products to perform in the field.  Scent-Lok products work, and work well. Laboratory tests, including tests conducted in the lawsuit show that Scent-Lok carbon-containing clothing dramatically outperforms no-carbon clothing at adsorbing odors.

In a survey of Minnesota hunters conducted as part of the litigation, almost 80% of hunters who purchased activated-carbon clothing reported that they were very satisfied or satisfied with the performance of their odor control hunting clothing.
Survey experts noted that this score was very high for this type of survey.

Scent-Lok Technologies stands by its products and their ability to dramatically reduce human odor levels in the field to help hunters get close to game. Our extremely low return rate for odor issues suggest that our engineering is sound and our tests provide correlation to field success. That is why Scent-Lok offers an unconditional satisfaction guarantee.

ALS intends to appeal the court’s ruling and to continue to actively defend against this lawsuit.

Not quite telling the whole story, Scent-Lok claimed it could eliminate "100 of your scent, 100 of th time" (the ad is on my website) which is why the court ruled that they commited fraud.

The court also rueld that claims of reactivation to "pristine" or "like new" condition" by Scent Lok, were false.

Scent Lok has repeateldy misled, lied to and decieved hunters, there are numerous examples on my website (documentedd ovr the years). Why should you trust a company that repeatedly does this to you?

As to tests showing Scent Lok outperforms other products, I've yet to see any independent testing that proves that, even though I have repeatedly asked for such data. Tests conducted by a compay on its own products - against other products - should always be suspect. I suspect...

By the way --- I received a personal e-mailfrom Greg Sesselman, owner of Scent Lok today - after 3 years of the campaign against Scent Lok. I think you will find it, and my respsonse to Greg, interesting - it is on my website.

Once again - not axactly forthright - and very misleading.

From my website:

Once again Scent Lok has misled hunters (on its website), by stating that many of their innovation are patentable. While this statement is true, it does not explain that the initial Patents # 1-4, 5-8, 34-37, 38, 39, 41, 45, 61 and 64 many  of which were for odor control clothing, are no longer patented by Scent Lok, which is what many hunting clothing manufacturers were hoping for. This leaves the door open for those manufacturers to produce and sell clothing designed to reduce odors for hunters - who deserve the right to have those options made available to them - not to be confined to just one type of odor reduction clothing - s Scent Lok wishes.

God bless,

T.R.

Likewise, two sides to every story but this one seems to be a heated debate from many parties.

Exactly.  I've said it before and I'll say it again.  It's your money, spend it how you want on what you want.

From the looks of it the issue is more their advertizing than their product.  There are laws governing truth in advertizing.  It's not ok to make claims that are simply not true just to sell a product. On the serface I doubt the clothing elminates 100% of human odor.  Does it help, I'm sure it does.  Then again, I'm not the expert here.  Go-Big-Red I agree it's your money and you can spend it how you want but..... with that said I have a product that will allow you to "shoot a deer everytime you go out hunting".  I can supply it to anyone for $125.00.  Any takers?

Well I believe Sent Loc was brave to come to a web site like this and make any kind of a statement. To manytimes I have seen a whole site come down on a person with all thier members just because one popular member didn't agree with the poster.

I bought a complete suit from GM when they closedout the Fridley store only because they were at 75% off, not because sent loc made any claims on thier products.

I know that they probably don't elimemenate 100% oder, but their product combined with sent elimenating wash, spray, gum, cover sent, and deodeant along with stand placement ,wind direction and knoleage of your game will help fool a nice whitetail deer.

With that said I also believe we as a consumer should have some sort of law that stands up for us and comes down on these false advertisers who prey on peoples misjugment on claims made by the manufacture.

Thanks, Benny
