Hey Yo,

Well, the opener has come and gone and the Walleye fishing has been very tough most of the last week.  We have been catching most of our Walleyes on Jigs and minnows with just a few exceptions.

There have been a few reports of fish being caught in shallow water, however that has been in the early morning and late evening hours.  Most of the daytime action has been in much deeper water.  Most of my fish have come from 25 to 35ft with some as deep as 45ft.

It will be interesting to see what kind of effect all the storms may have had on the bite.  With a cold front on it's way later today, I am not very optomistic at this point.

There is a bright spot to all of this, the Smallmouth action has been pretty good so far this season.  We managed to catch a number of quality fish this week, including quite a few of them in the 4 and 5 pound range. :fishing2:

Not your typical spring so far on the Big V....

Here is a report from last weekend~

5/19 thru 5/23,buds from work followed everyone elses lead and blanked the 1st two days, they fished deeper water with bait rigs, even minnowed tipped jigs, then as a last resort they started casting cranks along shorelines as they worked their way back to Pikes Bay (cabin) and would'nt ya know 4 guys limited out in short order working the shallows, outside weed edge was the key, fish were trolling as well in water 8-10'.These walleyes were caught in Pikes Bay,all seemed to be smaller male fish under 17"s,good eaters tho.
