I picked this out of bowhunter73's food plot the other day. What do you think it is? I thought Brassica or Rape but someone mentioned that they thought it looked like chicory.

What do you guys think?

For some reason it looks familiar but I'm not sure what it is. However I don't believe it's brassica or chicory - checked my reference book and did not look to be the same plant. I don't know what rape is.

You mean SuperDotch. He's probably changing into his caped bib overalls as I type.

Not sure what it is but it's all over the top of my hill in my backyard... If it's the same stuff, makes ya itch. Looks edible.

Looks like some sort of a turnip or something... Can't see the root tho.

It the Official State Weed, the dandelion!

It does look like a young turnip.  Maybe some product contamination when filling seed bags?
Take a kid hunting and fishing... It'll be the best thing for generations to come.

I am going to guess chicory.  Chicory looks very much like a dandelion but a distinctly larger leaf.  Brassicas are usually more lobed and course...but this appears to be a young leaf.

Wait until it sends up a flower...take a picture of that and post it.  If it is chicory, there will be several small blue flowers.  Do an internet "image" search and you can see more photos of chicory as well as other plants.

After many searches I agree with you. I have rape coming up in one of my plots and this is not rape after side by side comparison. There is also turnips in the same plot that came up in so I ruled that out as well. Chicory it is.

Dad gummit! The Mrs. must've shrunk these bib overhauls again! Yes, I'd agree. It looks like chicory. Watch for sessile leaves, that is leaves without a stem connecting them to the main stalks or stems as the plant begins to bolt or elongate. When it flowers, the flowers are blue as Land Dr. points out & the petals or ray flowers will have five little lobes or notches on the tips.

I'm gonna say Rape or a Hybrid Turnip. There's so many types of them it's hard to rule them out. It doesn't look like Dwarf Essex Rape though which is in a lot of mixes.
Let the small bucks walk. Don't assume the neighbors will shoot them if you don't. If you shoot him what chance does that buck have to grow......ZERO!
