Wondering what kind of trail cams everybody uses? What kind of batteries and how long do your batteries last?

My dad bought one from Walmart (like 99.99). It works great but the batteries last about 1 day. It is a 6v battery. At $4 a pop, that is expensive!!!! Is there a way I can hook a car battery to this and only draw the 6 volts and the correct amps?

Thanks,

WW

do they make rechargables that size?  I know if you get the nickel metal ones... they'll last longer. and you can recharge them.
If a gun kills people then I can blame a pen for my misspells?

Bushnell Trail Sentry Digital (11-9000), it ran roughly $99 at Cabelas.  The 4 D batteries last about 200 pictures.  What I have learned is don't put the camera over food or you will have pictures of other animals and birds.  In one weekend I had 500+ pictures and only one deer because the crows had taken up all my battery power.  I like this camera as it takes decent pictures, and is a great starter camera.

I can't wait to get up maybe next weekend to see what has walked by.

My next camera will be one that I can set the motion sensitivity and also have the capabilities of directly linking to an external 12v battery.

i have a few stealth digitals (real slow trigger time real hard on the batteries ways around that though).some of the stealths i have converted in to I.R cameras. 1 leaf river real good battery life easy set up. alright trigger time.i have built 4 trail cameras also (same as a Penn's wood digital) for half what Penn's woods cost. there trigger time is about 2 seconds battery life is good also. i have a ton of pictures but i don't know how to get them on the computer.

Primos Silent Image.

Expensive, but well worth it!  Batteries last 40,000 pictures, time, date, barometer, moon phase stamped on each photo, infra red flash, near video capable, 1/10 second trigger speed yada yada.... in 2 weeks i've taken 2700 photos and still going strong.

look into them! You won't be disapponted!

Good Luck!

I talked with my dad yesterday and he went out to my camera.  He walked by and it took a photo so (even though the weather is cold) the batteries have lasted 6 days.  He didn't check to see how many photos, I will hopefully know more next weekend if I can get up there.
