Well the day finally came and now it's gone. Hunterdown, The General and myself made plans to fish one of HD's numerous honeyholes last Saturday. What a blast!

The plan was to meet HD and his buddy Dave at the launch at 9 am last Saturday. I told the General to be at my house by 7:30 figuring that would easily give us time time to drive to the lake by 9:00. I set my alarm for 6:15 - hit the snooze when it went off and dreamed about the bubblebath I would have time for before the General arrived. 6:20 I dragged myself out of bed - and thought I heard the doorbell. :Well, I better check this out," I thought. You guessed it, The General was at my door a full hour and 10 minutes before he was supposed to get there. Cool.

I still had to get dressed, pack up the boat, make some coffee - fancy coffee by the way, and round up some beers. Lucky for me I really didn't have much to do. The General had gone on a sandwich building binge the night before so we had plenty to eat. In fact I was still eating General sandwiches on Sunday. The sandwiches were spectacular. Apparently the General made a little side bet with himself to see how many jalapeno peppers he could fit on a sandwich. The answer is less than one hundred on each sandwich. And as it turned out a few too many for some of the more sensitive guys we met at the dock.

We arrived at 9am right on the nuts. Unloaded the boat and within a couple minutes HD and Dave showed up. They had been doing some prefishing and had already picked up a couple pike. The fishing started out kind of slow and then pretty much petered out all together. Actually the General got a decent pike and that white lipped thing that fought like crazy. The beer drinking however started out strong and just kept going.

We fished until about 3 pm. Final totals were (I think) The General - 2 pike and 1 white lipped smallmouth bass - I couldn't see it's eyes. Me - 0, HD - 0? and Dave - 1 or 2 pike? It was one of those tough days one the lake but the conversation was exceptional. The General at one point went so far as to bring out his beloved Banjo Minnow.

At 3:00 HD suggested we head over to his house for a couple more beers. I think he drove in circles on back roads to make sure I could never find my way there again. Now the real fun started. With no pesky fishing distractions we quickly finished off the few beers we had left and then started in on HD's stockpile. We were joined by Hunterdown's son and Mrs. Hunterdown. It was glorious. We sat in the front yard and talked for 3 or 4 hours.

Eventually it turned into autumn and I had to put a jacket on. While I could still stand The General suggested we go get something to eat and then treated us all to supper. We headed home from there.

Fabulous day - great company. Thanks you guys. Let's do it again soon.
I owe you a bunch of cigars.

It was a priceless day spent with friends for sure.  I however was way out of my element drinking that upper class beer called "spotted cow", which tasted like Bud Light Lime.

When I was attempting to get that lure out of that Bass  ;) I sure wish DDS would have been there.  Could have used his expertise.

One thing Doug forgot to mention was I whooped up Little HD in a game of Big Buck Hunter.   ;D

P.S. HD no wobble box for the Allis.

It was a good time!

I think Fawkinnae got cold from the header he did off of the side of the boat. Cause I found the cooler air really refeshing compared to the sweltering sauna we have had the past few weeks.

The mega storm we had the thursday-friday before, put the kabosh to the fishing success rate. Dumping a total of 5 inches and raising the lake back to it's normal levels of which we haven't seen in a few years. Several locals where out raising docks as we fished past, and the sounds of chainsaws where a buzz, cleaning up all the downed trees around the lake.

I had several strikes that I just couldn't get to connect with, so yes, I got skunked. While my fishing partner did manage to catch 3 small pike and a muskie.

So, the guide service that I provided....sucked...We will have to do it again sometime so I can (in the Generals words) "Redeem myself"

Thanks for look'in General....Anybody else out there have a wobble box for an Allis Chalmers haybine?

Anyway, it was fun!
And, my wife can now put a face to the name of those folks... I call friends.

What is that fish? My boy and I hooked into a couple of them they fight pretty hard. We were draggin crawlers and thought we hooked a big walleye.

Sounds like a good time even though the fishing was not hot.

Sheepshead/ Freshwater Drum -- They fight like crazy, I have been fooled by them many times fishing for walleyes!

Very nice story guys - Next time bring a camera along, it sounds like you guys could have your own TV series!

Nice story. Looks like some nice weather by the photo. Are you still trying to get the blood out of your carpet? This is just another MNO success story as far as the camaraderie amongst friends met through MNO. Glad to see everyone had a blast.

I couldn't have hand picked a better bunch of guys I'd like to fish with.
