I had been using an old hummingbird for the last 15 years and decided to move up to a GPS unit.
I purchased the Lowrance Elite-5 on Aug 3rd from Outdoorsman Headquarters in Int'll Falls Minn. I took it out the next morning and it worked great , For 20 minutes then the screen went.
I returned it to the store less then 24 hours after I purchased it. Apparently they have a different idea about what good service is. This unit should have been replaced but the best they would do is sent it to Lowrance for me. Makes me wonder why I paid about $60 more to buy locally so I could get local service.  I contacted Lowrance and they also don't know the meaning of good service. Well its now 4 weeks and I am still waiting for a unit that should have lasted more then 20 minutes before it died. I should have stuck with a name I could trust like Hummingbird or eagle. If you are considering purchasing a unit I would suggest staying clear of the elite-5 by Lowrance. It did work great for the 20 minutes I got to use it.

I have only ever had fantastic service from Lowrance.  I had my H20C need a software upgrade, called them up and told them I didn't have the cord for the computer sent me out a card to update it.  that still didn't work and I sent the unit to them and 4 days later I had a new one sent back that was still in the box sealed up tight.

I had some problems with my Lowrance H2Oc.  I contacted Lowrance and s.o.p. is to send them the unit and they will go through it.  I was told it was cost effective to have the techs. there vs scattered all over the country.  Whatever.  But then how many electronics repair places are there anymore?  Everything is throw away nowdays.  Throw away society.  Anyhow after some correspondance back and forth I had a new unit in my hands within a week.  I'll stick with Lowrance-they did right by me.  :happy1:

This is an update to my previous review
I contacted the owner of Outdoorsman Headquarters and found him to be very cooperative.
They gave me a full refund and I ordered a hummingbird 788ci from them as they had none in stock and I don't want another Lowrance product.
They also matched the sale price that it was on sale for at Cabalas.
I wish the assistant manager would have done this in the first place but at least its taken care of now.
I would still stay away from Lowrance products as part the problem is with their policies and they don't give the dealers a lot of room to work with but I will continue to deal with the outdoorsman headquarters in the future
